Amergis School Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in Santa Clarita, California

A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in a school setting plays a crucial role in supporting students’ well-being and educational success. Here are the key responsibilities of a school COTA:

Assessment and Collaboration:

  • Work with students who require therapy services.

  • Collect information and assess students’ needs.

  • Collaborate with occupational therapists (OTs) to plan and administer treatment programs.

Direct Services:

  • Provide direct, group, or consultative school-based services based on individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 plans.

  • Assist with fine motor function, gross motor function, sensory processing, and other functional abilities.

  • Modify treatments as needed during sessions.

  • Adapt classroom environments and materials to improve student function and access to curricular activities.

Equipment and Materials:

  • Assist in procuring, preparing, and maintaining therapy materials and supplies.

  • Monitor the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technologies.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Document activities, progress, and relevant information.

  • Collaborate with educational teams, parents, and other service providers.

  • Prepare written materials for communication and reporting.

Professional Growth:

  • Participate in professional development activities related to pediatric occupational therapy and special education.

Remember that the COTA works under the direction and supervision of a registered OT and contributes significantly to students’ overall well-being and development within the school environment.

  • Duration: August 13, 2024 to June 13, 2025

  • Location: Saugus Union USD

  • Site: TBD (Will be split site assignment)

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours per day with a half hour unpaid lunch

  • Pay rate: $35-$40 per hour (DOE)
