What We Do

The Information Systems Division provides department-wide training and support to users of the department’s LAN and applications; coordinates City-provided technical services and support with the Department of Technology; manages the functional and technical teams assigned to develop and maintain the department’s Pension Administration system and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) project; oversees the department’s cybersecurity protocols; and leads the department’s disaster recovery and business resumption planning and policy efforts.

Appointment Type

What We’re Looking For

SFERS seeks an experienced PeopleSoft Administrator with knowledge of installing and configuring PeopleSoft tools and applications on Unix systems, managing, and configuring PeopleSoft Application Servers, Process Schedulers, and Web Servers. This engineer must have a deep understanding of the PeopleSoft architecture, including WebLogic/Tuxedo administration. In addition to the ongoing duties detailed below, the incumbent will be responsible for completing the following deliverables: 1) PeopleSoft Tools Upgrade, 2) PeopleSoft Applications Upgrade, and 3) PHIRE Installation.

Under general direction, the PeopleSoft System Engineer analyzes, plans, designs, implements, maintains, troubleshoots, and enhances large complex systems or networks consisting of a combination of Oracle, PeopleSoft, Unix, and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together as an enterprise Pension Administration and web portal solution.

The essential duties of the position include:

  • Determine requirements for the development or enhancement of large complex systems or networks that serve as a data processing backbone for the SFERS Pension Administration system. May research and conduct feasibility studies on new technologies.

  • Design, plan, integrate, test, implement, document, and enhance the physical and logical components of our Pension Administration system. This may involve the analysis and evaluation of systems software, hardware, and communications strategies, including integration with other auxiliary SFERS systems consisting of an Enterprise Content Management Solution, an internal Portal solution, and the CCSF Department of Technology.

  • Perform complex systems integration for interoperability over dissimilar platforms and technologies. This may involve the integration of various protocols, systems software, hardware, and communications platforms.

  • Determine the proper installation parameters for software and hardware for smooth integration and efficiency in relation to the enterprise system and network.

  • Write complex software which may involve specialized scripts to automate our processes.

  • Analyze, detect, identify, and correct complex systems software or hardware deficiencies.

  • Provide 24-hour on-call support to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission-critical systems and networks.

  • Plan, implement, maintain, and coordinate upgrades/updates/fixes for core operating systems and their related components, without negative impact to the overall availability and reliability of the enterprise systems/networks.

  • Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems/networks software and hardware; develop and review documentation prior to general distribution.

  • Plan, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures in coordination with CCSF Department of Technology.

  • Ensure that procedures do not negatively impact users or system performance; communicate with managers regarding system performance and operational issues. Suggest improvements to management.

  • Monitor daily systems performance and execute corrective measures; and perform other related duties as required.

How to Qualify

Education:

An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of an enterprise network.

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

  • Three (3) years of senior-level technical experience with Peoplesoft (Unix) System Installation and Configuration, and Peoplesoft Security Administration; and

  • Three (3) years of senior-level technical experience with Peoplesoft system maintenance and upgrades – applying patches and updates provided by Oracle (the company behind PeopleSoft) to keep the system secure and up to date, planning and executing upgrades to PeopleSoft applications and underlying databases.
