About American Express Ventures
American Express Ventures (“Amex Ventures”) is the corporate venture capital arm of American Express focused on early-stage (primarily Seed – Series B) investments across fintech, commerce and enterprise software. With a global mandate, Amex Ventures plays a key role in investing in game-changing startups with strategic relevance to American Express. The team also helps portfolio companies and startups to commercialize partnerships with American Express business units.

The Amex Ventures team is seeking a highly motivated individual to help develop investment theses, source and execute investments for their enterprise software team. The enterprise team focuses on investments across AI/ML, security, data infrastructure, identity, fraud/risk, and banking/payment infrastructure.
The role is based in San Francisco, California or New York, NY.
Job Scope & Responsibilities
In this exciting opportunity, the Investment Manager will be an integral part of Amex Ventures’ enterprise team, playing a key role in the day-to-day evaluation and execution of transactions including strategic rationale analysis, due diligence, valuation, structuring, and negotiations through to closing. The Investment Manager will also assist in driving strategic engagement between American Express and its portfolio companies.
Primary responsibilities:
Developing investment thesis around strategic areas, conducting market and industry analysis
Active involvement in the full lifecycle of venture investing, including sourcing, evaluating, transacting, and managing investments
Proactively identifying potential investments, meeting and qualifying startups; will have extensive exposure to and be expected to develop strong relations with the venture and entrepreneurial ecosystem
Managing and reporting on the active pipeline
Evaluating potential target company’s and business cases from strategic, operational and financial valuation perspectives
Providing key analysis and support for transactions and working closely with internal and external partners to execute investments
Manage due diligence and financial analysis for transaction opportunities, including preparation of investment memos, oversight of legal negotiations, and management of deal execution processes
Preparing and communicating recommendations to investment team
Responsible for ongoing monitoring and managing relationships with investment companies and the investment portfolio review process
Collaborate with various teams at American Express business units to identify opportunity areas to partner with startups from within and outside our portfolio
Qualifications:
At least 4-6 years of previous experience in relevant sectors (i.e. investing, banking, consulting, strategy, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge and interest of software & tech sectors with relevance to enterprise investing team, interest in startup ecosystem
Proven financial, analytical and valuation skills
Self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and autonomy
Strategic thinker, with the ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree required
Qualifications
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
