Job Summary:

The UMS Instructor/Course Manager will support active duty instructors in the EODTEUONE UMS division managing the currency and accuracy of course documents, student testing, instructional staff, instructional materials, training resources, student control, and evaluation for the UMS Course Identifier Number (CIN) courses of instruction (COI). Additionally, serve as a subject matter expert in each specific COI and augment instructor staff, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Qualify in all UMS CIN courses of instruction.

  • Review all Instructor Lesson Plans for technical accuracy.

  • Review all test items, quizzes, homework, and other instructional materials for completeness and conformity with the curriculum, submitting written recommendations for change to the division leadership.

  • Note deficiencies/discrepancies in training equipment, devices, instructional aids, and material and submit written recommendations to the division leadership.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for specific courses that they teach. Submit written recommendations for curriculum updates to the division leadership.

  • Maintain proficiency in instructional techniques as set forth in Navy’s Journeyman Instructor Training Course or equivalent.

  • Maintain proficiency in the use of training aids, equipment, devices, and instructional materials necessary to teach assigned topics.

  • Develop and maintain classroom/laboratory management techniques that reflect professionalism and good discipline to enhance learning.

  • Interface with the Curriculum Control Authority (CCA) to ensure that training courses support established training and qualification requirements.

  • Ensure courses and training products are properly updated to provide maximum combat effectiveness, readiness, and cost capture for baseline budgeting and optimal resource management.

  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of conventional and innovative training methods, techniques, and tools to design and develop training courses.

  • Demonstrated skill in identification, analysis, and resolution of training safety issues.

  • Develop and publish training policy and procedures for administrative reporting and tracking of qualification and course certification status of all UMS division instructors.

  • Conduct instructor technique evaluations for initial course qualification.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of the Basic UUV O&M Course, CIN: A-062-0200

  • Graduate of the Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMS) Course, CIN: G-431-9080

  • Three years of instructional experience in lieu of designation (DD-214, course certificates, etc.).

  • Three years of demonstrated experience in courseware development and classroom instruction in the use and interpretation of underwater side scan sonar imagery, Forward-Looking Sonar (FLS) imagery (i.e. ATLAS), and Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) imagery (i.e. SSAM), to include advanced techniques in varying bottom types.

  • Three years of experience in the integration of FLS and SAS sensors into the MK18 Family of Systems (FoS) UUVs for ExMCM applications and operations.

  • Three years of experience in the application of FLS software (i.e. PUMA) and SAS software (i.e. COIN) for PMA.

  • Have a broad background, knowledge, skill and experience in the Naval Operational Planning Process and Command and Control of assigned forces.

  • Five years of operational experience in the tactical employment of the MK 18 UUV FoS to include at least six months of deployed operational experience in direct support of military operations (e.g. Fifth Fleet operations)

  • Graduate of a Military service Instructor Course

  • Honorably Discharged from Active-Duty Military service if applicable.

  • Must meet Navy High-Risk Training requirements as outlined in OPNAVINST 1500.75 series.

  • Possess or qualify for a Security Clearance of SECRET
