Business Lending Services Department is currently seeking well qualified professionals for the role of Commercial Underwriter (Credit Advisor). The Business Lending Services Department specialize in lower middle-market commercial loans, commercial real estate loans, and SBA throughout California. The successful candidate will perform the following job duties:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for analyzing and underwriting complex Commercial & Industrial, Investor CRE, and Owner-Occupied CRE. Writes credit narratives and pre-flights/concept memorandums.

  • Conducts credit investigations and analyzes credit information pertaining to loans. Investigates all available sources of credit and financial information, including reporting services, credit bureaus, other companies, main office files, and branches.

  • Analyzes financial statements and tax returns, accounts receivable and payable aging, inventory reports, third party appraisal reports, and related material. Analyzes financial conditions and trends , including industry research.

  • Determines cash flow using appropriate software and cash flow models. Builds custom cash flow models for complex borrowers or industries.

  • Prepares summaries, presents facts, and offers opinions concerning credit-worthiness to relationship managers, senior management, and credit approvers. Makes recommendations for credit and covenant structures.

  • Ensures that all credit files include proper documentation including current financial statements, agency reports, etc.

  • Reviews existing financial and reporting covenants for compliance as required.

  • Accompanies relationship managers on business calls as requested.

  • May assist in the training and mentorship of junior credit analysts.

  • Assists with special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related area of study.

  • 8+ years of commercial credit analysis and underwriting experience.

  • Knowledge of C&I, Investor CRE, Owner-Occupied CRE, and SBA 504.

  • Knowledge of financial and spread analysis, accounting, and credit/lending procedures for complex loans. Experience with Moody’s Risk Analyst and Buker’s Tax Analysis preferred.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply commercial credit principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.

  • Ability to work with lending officers and staff.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding loans.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to use electronic workflow and credit systems.

    This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $108,000 - $135,000 annually depending on job-related factors such as level of experience.
