Job Summary

Would you like to apply your surveying skills in a position that is more stable with much less travel than is typically required for this type of position? The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently with limited supervision who has strong surveying knowledge and experience (preferably a Utah land surveyor license).

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and certify land surveys and legal descriptions and also review similar documents prepared by outside professionals.

  2. Assist University legal counsel and real estate professionals in completion of real estate transactions and issue resolution including title research and preparation or review of legal descriptions and other real estate documents.

  3. Using advanced survey instruments such as GPS , EDM , Lidar and drones, obtain precise location data of physical aspects of University property, utilities, and other physical features.

  4. Reconcile any differences between University survey data versus data prepared by outside surveyors and contractors.

  5. Mark existing utility lines and other underground features on University property.

  6. Assist in the resolution of issues with underground utilities that were not known or which are not located where existing records indicate.

  7. Keep accurate records of work performed and assist with transferring the data to GIS .

  8. Gather data and provide other assistance as needed to enhance the University’s GIS records of physical features on University property.

  9. May supervise other staff.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or other related field plus two years of directly related experience or equivalency is required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. A valid driver’s license is required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) plus two years of directly related experience required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Specific areas of expertise may be preferred by departments.

Preferences

A surveyor license is strongly preferred as it is needed for some of the expected responsibilities. Experience in using various surveying instruments and equipment including GPS , EDM , Lidar and drones. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in plats, technical drawing and mapping, AutoCad Civil 3D, ARC Map. Working knowledge of surveying math, e.g. Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry. Critical-thinking, problem-solving and time-management skills. Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
