The Roy Lab at the Moran Eye Center at University of Utah is seeking a talented and motivated postdoc to work on an NIH funded project aimed at studying the mechanisms of visual signaling in a cone-dominated retina. This project is part of a broader work aimed at identifying and assessing the functions of inner retinal neurons and how these functions are impaired in retinal diseases. The candidate will use a variety of techniques including but not limited to multielectrode array recoding from ex vivo retina, calcium fluorescence imaging, virus-mediated cell targeting, immunohistochemistry, large-scale data analysis, and computational modeling.Successful applicant will have excellent scientific, problem-solving, organizational, and writing skills. Prior experience with electrophysiology, animal surgical and/or behavioral platforms, programming (Matlab, Python, R) and/or quantitative analysis of large data sets, is preferred. Experience working with virus and virus mediated cell-, circuit- and gene manipulations is not required but would be considered advantageous.In coordination with the PI, the candidate will participate in various aspects of project development, implementation, and management. The candidate will oversee/participate in experimental design, data collection, and data analysis. The candidate is expected to work with other lab personnel (graduate students, research assistants, technicians), write grants, prepare manuscripts, and present research findings at scientific conferences. Activities for professional development and that lead toward independence are strongly encouraged.This is a full-time position, with opportunities to work on other projects in the lab and ongoing collaborative projects with other labs at the Moran Eye Center (both basic and translational) and at other institutions. Salary for this position is based on NIH scale, commensurate with experience. Benefits are provided per the policies of the University of Utah. The ideal candidate will:Perform independent, cross-disciplinary research under the mentorship of PI.Design, develop and conduct experiments on ex vivo retina using techniques described above.
