L3Harris’ Communication Systems segment, Broadband Communications Sector is currently seeking a Lead, Systems Engineer to join our team. This position will be based at our Salt Lake City, UT facility reporting to the Army Aviation Systems Engineering organization.

Position Overview:

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the life-cycle support of data link (wideband, narrowband and/or SATCOM) systems from conceptual development through product phase-out. This includes technical lead supporting proposals/pursuits, requirements analysis and management, task planning, technical documentation (including generation of Statements of Work and specifications), design oversight participation, design synthesis in a multi-functional engineering environment, build and test support, subcontract control, risk management input, integration and verification test support, system deployment support and in-house technical support during the operational life-cycle of the system. Key programs supported are Apache MUMT-X, Apache Coyote, ROVER 6S, and various SATCOM and protected SATCOM programs. Additionally, continued efforts are directed towards key Army pursuits such as Future Tactical UAS, Multi-Orbit Modem (MOM), Resilient Anti-Jam Modem (RAM), and a host of others. The Army Aviation organization continues to grow based on established program follow-on opportunities as well as having high probability win opportunities for new business development.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs research and development in assigned engineering discipline

  • Assists and leads in the planning and conducting of technical projects or portions of projects

  • Employs best practices, tools and techniques and applies processes and methodologies selected to design and develop new products or modify existing products

  • Assists and leads in the capture and/or management of customer and derived requirements, decomposition and assignment of requirements to appropriate functional areas of responsibility, insuring traceability from a verification test matrix back to original customer and system level derived requirements

  • Assists and leads in development of technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, configuration analysis and processing solutions, and test conformance to specifications

  • Reviews literature, patents and current industry practices of relevance to assigned project

  • Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to schedule

  • Follows processes in conformance with established policies and objectives

  • Coordinates the efforts of technical support personnel

  • Provides technical consultation to internal organizations and/or customers

  • Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services

  • Participates and leads sections or sub-sections in design reviews

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience with engineering design concepts and engineering practices and procedures required to develop, test and deploy systems.

  • Knowledge of L3Harris’ implementation of Line-of-sight and SATCOM communication systems

  • Experience in leading technical pursuits, RFIs, and RFPs with emphasis on organizing and leading architectural development, technical volume generation, schedules, and estimates for technical labor and hardware

  • Experience in product development (preferably in military application environment).

  • Presentation and communication skills (verbal/written/visual)

  • Problem solving skills and the ability to meet critical deadlines

  • Understanding in coordination of project(s) and efforts of technical support personnel

  • Ability to productively contribute work, ideas and collaboration as part of a team

  • Ability to obtain a US DoD Security Clearance, as required

  • Ability, willingness to travel when required to support customer installation, demonstrations and general field support
