Job Summary

As an integral part of KUER , NPR Utah’s fundraising team, the Donor Communications Specialist will strategize and create compelling fundraising messaging via emails, web content, social media, and more to assist in the cultivation and stewardship of donors to KUER .

Key responsibilities include excellent writing skills, including ghostwriting for multiple voices, drafting and editing for numerous digital and print platforms and producing on-air scripts during KUER’s fund drives. Will work deeply within an email platform and web content management system. Will also work with lead generation software, Google Ad campaigns, and various social media platforms. Must be collaborative across the organization and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the fundraising team to strategize and produce written content to articulate the stations’ mission and garner support and loyalty: strong writing and editing skills required.

  • Maintain and manage email platform to engage, solicit and cultivate donors year-round through email communications. Management of email platforms includes understanding email analytics, managing and cleaning lists and importing appropriate data from external sources.

  • Regularly provide copy-editing for KUER’s daily, weekly, and programmatic newsletters.

  • Maintain and manage appropriate fundraising assets on web site using the content management system and integrated lead generation platforms used for fundraising.

  • Help strategize, research, create and implement solid email marketing and solicitation strategies for all areas of fundraising.

  • Assist in strategizing and implementing appropriate fundraising strategies on social media in close collaboration with content and programming to enhance fundraising objectives.

  • Play a critical role in on-air fundraisers, including digital campaigns, on-air scripts, on-air producing, writing, and editing of fundraising content (internal and external), and more.

  • Assist in creating and managing special events pages, registration forms, surveys, or other items as needed for fundraising and cultivation purposes.

  • Act as a backup for compiling and sending KUER’s daily, weekly, programmatic and major donor newsletters when the responsible staff are out of office.

  • Assist with KUER station and major donor events on an as-needed basis.

  • Basic graphic editing skills would be a bonus but not necessary.

  • Comfortable working in Microsoft office and Google Suite Assist with in-person fundraising or donor stewardship activities as needed.

Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Donor Acquisition.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience which includes fundraising, grant and publication writing, planning and implementing special events and programs and a successful track record in raising donations is preferred.

Department Specific Qualifications

Communication ability ; candidate should be able to effectively present ideas to stakeholders, accept criticism and feedback in the interest of the best strategy.

Problem solving ; the ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to create new ideas quickly and under pressure, while balancing appropriate projects, and bring new ideas to the table, while meeting deadlines.

Technical competency ; must be comfortable working in all aspects of Microsoft Office and Google Suite software. Previous working knowledge of email platforms, content management systems, lead generation software, social media platform, Google Ads and project management tools are a plus

Preferences

Ability to write and speak fluently in Spanish is advantageous.
