State of Utah - Jobs Hydrologist in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Job Title:  Hydrologist Job Description: A challenging and rewarding job awaits you in the Coal Program of the Utah Division of Oil,Gas and Mining (DOGM). DOGM is recruiting for an Environmental Scientist to conduct ground and surface water evaluations in its role as the regulatory authority for coal mining and reclamation activity throughout the State of Utah. *Environmental Scientist I,II,or III An Environmental Scientist III must have direct hydrologic work experience under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA). May be filled as an Environmental Scientist I or II depending on experience. Principal Duties:

  • Review proposed coal mining and reclamation plans for compliance with the hydrology portions of the State of Utah R645 rules. 
  • Inspect coal mining operations to determine compliance with State of Utah R645 rules relative to hydrology.
  • Produce and update Cumulative Hydrologic Impact Assessments (CHIA). 
  • Coordinate with other state,local and federal agencies.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A Bachelor s degree or higher in hydrology,hydrogeology,water resource engineering,watershed management or closely related field.
  • General knowledge of hydrology/water resources specific to Utah. 
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology,hydrology and land-use issues specific to Utah coal environment.
  • The ability/experience in interpreting and applying laws,rules,regulations,policies and procedures. 
  • The experience in evaluating mine plans relative to vegetation,fish and wildlife resources and determining their effectiveness in preventing impacts to the environment.
