Huntsman Cancer Institute An NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center Department of Oncological Sciences, University of Utah The Department of Oncological Sciences and Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) invite applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant or associate/full professor levels. We seek outstanding basic cancer biologists that will complement existing strengths in the Department in transcriptional regulation, cell signaling, epigenetics, cancer genetics, stem cell biology, genetically-engineered mouse and zebrafish models of cancer, apoptosis, DNA repair, cell motility and cancer metabolism. HCI provides an outstanding environment, with state-of-the-art facilities, excellent shared resources, and NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center designation in a collegial and collaborative Department culture. We encourage applications from candidates with research programs in the following areas: 1. Basic Cancer Cell Biology: We seek investigators with innovative cancer cell biology programs that emphasize mechanistic approaches. We are interested in all areas of eukaryotic cell biology, including stem cell biology, signal transduction, metabolism, second messenger/lipid signaling, epithelial biology, and cell migration mechanisms. Applicants applying innovative biochemical and/or imaging techniques to solve cancer-related problems are particularly encouraged to apply. 2. Cancer Predisposition Genetics: We seek outstanding scientists centered on an area of historic University of Utah strength, cancer predisposition genetics. We are interested in a broad area spanning from cancer susceptibility gene identification to basic mechanisms through which sequence variants elicit tumor initiation or progression, and especially studies that connect to strengths in Population Sciences (e.g. the Utah Population Database, UPDB). We are also interested in studies aimed at better integration between germline genotypes, somatic cell mutations, and expression profiles or other genomics analyses towards tumor prevention, interception, or improved treatment. We are looking for collaborative and engaged colleagues who are interested in advancing their career through interdisciplinary team science. Applicants for Assistant Professor are expected to hold a PhD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), have received appropriate postdoctoral training and to have a track record of impact and research productivity. Applicants for senior positions should additionally have a proven record of independent funding, leadership and innovative research, and will provide mentorship/training to junior faculty and trainees.
