  • About the opportunity:*

Mathematica is searching for a dedicated professional with experience successfully improving state behavioral health programs within or in conjunction with Medicaid programs and state, local, and private providers.  Experience managing public behavioral health programs and monitoring program quality and operations using a variant of data sources is appreciated. We are looking for an individual who can provide consulting support for program evaluation, design, improvement and transformation, and monitoring.

  • Duties of the position:*

    • Lead or participate actively and thoughtfully in multidisciplinary teams to implement, monitor, and advise on state policy and programs.
    • Provide the energy, direction, and organization needed to help keep projects on time and on budget and facilitate communications across and between internal and external stakeholders.
    • Author client memos, technical assistance tools, issue briefs, chapters of analytic reports, and webinar presentations.
    • Lead and help develop proposals for new projects.
    • Represent the company's expertise through various mechanisms, such as publications, conferences, technical communications, and testimony.
    • Contribute to the growth, expertise, and institutional knowledge of other state health and Medicaid staff.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in public policy, public administration, public health, healthcare administration, business, or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • 5/+ years (Consultant) or 7/+ years of experience (Senior Consultant) managing complex projects or tasks related to healthcare or health policy
  • Experience working at or with a local, state or federal agency, a foundation, a healthcare provider, a Medicaid managed care plan or another policy research firm is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to lead activities, manage tasks through the project lifecycle, and coordinate the work of multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality work to our clients on time and budget
  • Strong analytic, written and oral communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong mentorship skills to mentor several junior staff members

The Behavioral Health Consultant position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $110,000 - $130,000. The Senior Behavioral Health Consultant position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 annually. Both positions are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance.

Staff in our Health unit will eventually work with our largest client, Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS). Most staff working on CMS contracts will be required to complete a successful background investigation including the Questionnaire for Public Trust Position SF-85. Staff that are unable to successfully undergo the background investigation will need to be able to obtain work outside CMS. Staff will work with their supervisor to get re-staffed, however if they are unable to do so it may result in employment termination due to lack of work.
