Job Summary

The Center for Health Ethics, Arts and Humanities Program Coordinator will oversee a variety of programs and activities serving the University of Utah Health Sciences campus and the greater University of Utah. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organized person who is interested in the planning and execution of events and activities in service of the Center’s mission: to educate health professionals in bioethics, clinical ethics, and health humanities, while nurturing empathy and humanitarian values; to provide consultations on ethical issues related to patient care and healthcare research and to provide professional service to the University of Utah, Utah, the Mountain West, and nation. The Center for Health Ethics, Arts and Humanities prepares tomorrow’s healers to act with compassion and justice.

The coordinator will be a main point of contact and central resource for our diverse programming in ethics, arts, and humanities as they relate to healthcare, health education, and health research, serving people both on campus and in the wider community. As part of a larger Health Sciences team beyond the Center, the Coordinator must become familiar with and knowledgeable about School, College, and University processes. The Coordinator must be able to work independently as well as effectively with diverse groups and possess strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills. General duties include facilitating communication among Center faculty, planning and organizing activities and events, on-campus and off-campus outreach, information gathering and analysis, and assisting other staff with existing programs.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

The Coordinator will be a main point of contact for the activities and events of the Center for Health Ethics, Arts and Humanities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing day-to-day activities: managing communication, monitoring and updating website/social media information, tracking participation, preparing and editing documents.

  • Coordinating and maintaining multiple programs, some of which occur simultaneously, and being available to make informed, on the spot decisions to ensure activities are executed effectively and efficiently.

  • Planning and implementing activities for all program functions – setting up meetings/events, establishing and maintaining tracking and reporting functions, and ordering food and supplies for activities as needed.

  • Acting as a representative and liaison with all program entities within the Health Sciences.

  • Monitoring program quality and effectiveness. Assisting with any program questions or issues that arise.

  • Writing, editing, and distributing program-related materials.

  • Working with other coordinators and programs, especially within the Office of the Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Education.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Preferences

  • Interested in or curious about the work of the Center.

  • 2+ years of relevant experience managing, overseeing and tracking complex programs and/or grant proposals.

  • Service-oriented, can handle tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Possesses advanced analytical and comprehension skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
