ASM Global General Manager in Saginaw, Michigan

POSITION: General Manager

DEPARTMENT: Executive

REPORTS TO: Regional Manager/Vice President

FLSA STATUS: Salaried/Exempt

Summary

This individual will be entrusted with the comprehensive management, promotion, and operation of the facility. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including procurement, event booking, marketing, financial management, human resources, food and beverage services, box office operations, advertising, security, production oversight, maintenance, parking management, and other related operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivates strong relationships with stakeholders including the Client/Contract Administrator, tenants, government bodies, and community organizations to maximize facility usage and ensure compliance with management agreements.

  • Promotion and Utilization: Actively promotes the facility to maximize its usage through aggressive marketing strategies and outreach efforts.

  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiates contracts with promoters, event organizers, and other stakeholders to secure favorable terms that benefit the facility.

  • Operational Oversight: Directs day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth coordination of plans, programs, and events while conducting post-event reviews for analysis and improvement.

  • Financial Management: Manages all financial aspects of facility operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting activities.

  • Compliance and Regulation: Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and ASM Global policies, overseeing human resources functions and evaluating facility practices for efficiency and safety improvements.

  • Staff Management: Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff to ensure effective performance and alignment with organizational goals.

  • Community Engagement: Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with tenants, employees, union representatives, and the public to foster positive community engagement and support.

  • Event Booking: Functions as the primary negotiator for live entertainment event contracts, ensuring successful agreements with promoters, organizers, hosts, managers, and agents.

  • Additional Responsibilities: Undertakes other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in meeting the facility's needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversees senior staff across all facility locations.

  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including the Client/Contract Administrator, tenants, government agencies, sports and entertainment industry professionals, community leaders, civic organizations, and union representatives, fostering regular facility usage.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record in managing large-scale facility operations with a diverse workforce.

  • Extensive experience in contract negotiations, personnel supervision, live entertainment production oversight, business law, procurement, and labor relations.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sports management, public administration, or equivalent experience.

  • Seasoned leader with a minimum of 5-7 years in senior management roles within Arenas, Convention Centers, or Stadiums.

Skills and Abilities

  • Thrives under industry pressures, maintaining effectiveness and composure.

  • Possesses strong business acumen with a focus on client/customer service excellence.

It is the home of the Ontario Hockey League’s Saginaw Spirit.

The Arena at The Dow Event Center is located at the west end of The Dow Event Center and can host up to 7,600 people. The 25,000 square foot arena - which features new LED lighting, a new public address system and a state-of-the-art videoboard - can be modified to host basketball games, hockey, indoor football, concerts, monster truck shows, professional bull riding exhibitions, circuses, trade shows and more.

The Theater at The Dow Event Center is located at the east end of The Dow Event Center and can seat up to 2,276 guests. Equipped with professional lighting and sound systems, spacious dressing rooms and convenient loading areas, The Theater at The Dow Event Center is an extraordinary venue for exciting theater entertainment. The Theater at The Dow Event Center has hosted exciting events such as Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Dunham, Broadway Musicals such as “RENT” & “CATS,” Theresa Caputo, Casting Crowns, Kansas, Newsboys, David Blaine, PJ Masks, Paw Patrol LIVE and more!

Jolt Credit Union Event Park is an outdoor venue that includes a 10,000 sq. foot pavilion, a main stage and a grassy area designed to attract a wide range of events and draw people to Downtown Saginaw. The Jolt Credit Union Event

Park is a safe and economical place in the community for people of all ages and scopes from around the region to gather for a wide variety of events. The 5,500 capacity Jolt Credit Union Event Park is available for concerts, community events, fundraisers and more.

The Red Room is used for a variety of events including concerts, comedy shows, trade shows, wedding receptions, banquets, proms, conferences, and ceremonies. Capacity can range from up to 350 guests for banquets and 1200 guests for standing room shows.

The Garden Room is an excellent location to host smaller banquets, bridal showers, business parties and meetings. Capacity can range from up to 50 guests for banquets and 100 people for theater style seating.
