Position Overview:

The Vice President, Actuarial Services is a leadership role responsible for driving the company’s actuarial strategy, with a strong emphasis on advancing value-based care initiatives, for Sutter Health’s value-based business. Full responsibility for all pricing, underwriting and financial risk prediction/management strategies ($2B in annual revenues, 500k members). This role demands a strategic leader capable of managing complex actuarial functions across multiple lines of business. The Vice President, Actuarial Services will lead a team of actuaries and collaborate with various departments to ensure the company’s actuarial practices are robust, compliant, and aligned with Sutter Health’s Strategic Initiatives.

Job Description :

Education:

  • BA/BS in a related field such as Finance, Mathematics or Accounting or equivalent education/experience.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 8 years of relevant professional actuarial and/or underwriting experience in healthcare.

  • 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience leading a work or cross functional underwriting team.

  • 7 years of Progressively responsible leadership experience

Knowledge & Skills :

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous environments and make high-stakes decisions.

  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.

  • Advanced communication and presentation skills, capable of translating complex actuarial concepts into actionable insights for executive and board-level audiences.

  • Analytical thinker with a deep understanding of the insurance industry and value-based care.

The primary office location of this position will be in Sacramento, CA or Emeryville, CA.

Pay Range is $148.14 to $200.42 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
