ABOUT THIS JOB:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the Area Engineer (Engineer 7) in maintenance and operations management in assigned parishes. This is accomplished by directing and coordinating maintenance management activities through the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendents.

No Civil Service test scoreis required to be considered for this vacancy.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Five years of experience in the construction or maintenance of transportation infrastructure; the fabrication, installation, or maintenance of traffic control devices; the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems; or any combination of the above.

To manage construction and/or maintenance activities related to related to transportation infrastructure.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Manager.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Broad review from a higher-level Engineer. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Direct over supervisory personnel, such as superintendents and foremen, performing construction and/or maintenance activities for transportation infrastructure. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Primarily located at the Department of Transportation and Development. Other locations may be approved by SCS.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from other maintenance supervisory personnel by the presence of regional managerial responsibilities of construction and/or maintenance activities for transportation infrastructure.

Examples of Work

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Manages construction and/or maintenance activities for district operations or a statewide function that directly impacts transportation such as roads, bridges, waterways, etc.

Plans, coordinates, and directs all activities and personnel engaged in a wide variety of duties related to traffic operations or roadway maintenance activities.

Responsible for ensuring equipment is properly maintained and regularly inspected to meet Department policies and procedures.

Responds to complaints from the general public, local officials, materials vendors, etc.

Coordinates with the District or Business Office and Warehouse personnel on ordering and inspecting equipment and supplies to ensure an adequate stock of these items.

Responsible for the project development for contract maintenance as related to traffic operations or roadway maintenance activities.

Writes, evaluates, and makes recommendations for standard Department specifications.

Advises design section on projects related to traffic operations and roadway maintenance activities.

Monitors subordinates' work and maintains records of activities.

Maintains familiarity and ensures the unit’s compliance with agency procedures on purchasing, budgeting, accounting, contracts, etc.

Assists engineering managers by recommending revisions to policies and procedures that will result in improved operations.

Supervise emergency operations related to severe weather as necessary.

May manage the fabrication, installation, modification, and repair of traffic control devices and ensure the devices comply with specifications, and Department policies and procedures.

May designs special circuitry when necessary to provide the signal phasing and timing required to each particular situation in order that the signals may function as needed to provide traffic control.
