Northrop Grumman's Space Systems sector is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Design Engineer or a Sr Principal Civil/Structural Design Engineer on the Infrastructure team. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force and is located in Roy, UT .

This position will fill a critical technical role within a diverse team. The Sentinel Facility Design Team oversees the design of the facilities that support the future upgrade to the Minuteman III missiles as well as the unique flight test facilities. This role is part of the team responsible for defining the facility requirements of the new weapon system and ensuring they are incorporated into the facility designs. Therefore, those who join us have the privilege of learning every aspect of this program, from the interfaces with the Missile, to the plans and procedures required to execute construction for the United States Air Force. A large part of this job also includes engagement with the program partner, Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm. There is something for everyone on this team including design review, analysis, modeling, system engineering, test planning, scheduling, and risk management. Selected individuals will gain exposure to all these aspects as well as focusing on the tasks best suited to them.

What You'll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will become a Civil/Structural Design Engineer on the Infrastructure Team (INF). This role supports the design, modeling, and integration efforts for Civil/Structural elements for Sentinel Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil/structural systems design for the Sentinel infrastructure and facilities.

  • Subject matter expert supporting the design of high complexity civil/structural systems, including structural steel design drawings, concrete forming and reinforcing design drawings.

  • Review structural design/selection/engineering for modularized fabrication.

  • Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines, and codes for project deliverables.

  • Participate in project design/model reviews.

  • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.

  • Support the delivery of Civil/Structural facility design Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.

  • Ensures design product quality by reviewing civil/structural designs and validating that current standards are applied.

  • Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues

  • Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.

  • Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.

  • Developing and maturing Civil/Structural facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

This position follows a 9/80 schedule which allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

This position may be filled as a Principal (Level 3) or Sr. Principal (Level 4).

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

Principal Civil/Structural Design Engineer: Bachelor of Science in Engineering +5 years of relevant experience; Masters Degree + 3 years of experience; PhD + 0 years of experience

Senior Principal Civil/Structural Design Engineer : Bachelor of Science in Engineering +9 years of relevant experience; Masters Degree + 7 years of experience; PhD + 4 years of experience

Required for both levels:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance as a condition of continued employment.

  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.

  • Exposure to American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) codes and standards.

  • Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance with the most recent investigation completed in the last 6 years.

  • Professional Engineering License

  • Civil/Structural design experience on MILCON or major infrastructure/building projects.

  • Proficiency with Revit, Siemens NX and Teamcenter

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, or STAAD).

  • Exposure to American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and/or International Building Code (IBC) codes and standards.

  • Exposure to Engineering Scheduling tools and applications (i.e, Primavera P6)

  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts to both Government and corporate leadership

Salary Range: $84,200 - $126,400

Salary Range 2: $104,400 - $156,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
