The Senior Technology Manager at CarMax partners with stakeholders to provide superior technology solutions that deliver CarMax's strategic mission and plans. This Senior Manager grows people, creates teams that solve problems for our Associates and customers and communicates priorities to stakeholders. The empowered teams of engineers they lead follow the Agile framework and leverage best in class Data Technology and Marketing solutions to solve complex business problems. This includes development of long and short-term technology solutions that address business goals and deliver improved profitability, efficiency, and an unrivaled associate experience. What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and empower a team of Engineers with varying levels of experience in Marketing Technology and Digital Data Strategy spaces.

  • Leverage digital asset tagging solutions to improve customer/associate experience

  • Champion Technology solutions connected with data to support various Marketing needs

  • Ensure the right skills are being used to solve the right problems while supporting the team with coaching, skills development, and career growth

  • Think strategically, prioritize objectives and a comprehensive approach to solution recommendations that includes ROI, time to market, scalability as well as alternative recommendations.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and leadership to ensure alignment and support for team objectives.

  • While this role is not “hands on keyboard,” we challenge our Sr. Managers to remain curious of innovative technology and keep up with knowledge of CarMax functional areas.

  • Drive associate engagement across multiple teams while leading through other leaders where necessary.

Technology and Methods:

Our Marketing Technology and Digital Data Strategy engineering teams leverage a broad complement of best-in-class systems, methodologies and technology including:

  • Integration patterns including REST APIs, Eventing, Bulk Uploads

  • DevOps Practices and Culture

  • Dual-Track Agile

  • .Net/.Net Core, ReactJS, Azure, Microservices Architecture,

  • Cloud Data Warehouse solutions like Snowflake

  • Adobe products like – Adobe Analytics

  • Digital Asset Management and workflow solutions

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Persuasive and influential communicator – able to explain complex or intangible concepts to stakeholders at all levels

  • Experience with leveraging data to support Marketing solutions

  • Knowledge of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and how to set short term and long-term goals

  • Provide people leadership for multiple, diverse cross-functional teams and individuals; coaching and guiding teams to enable future success

  • Enable a flexible yet productive work environment that supports a distributed work force: remote and hybrid

  • Partner with various teams to outline roadmaps, identify dependencies, and share updates on progress

  • Participate in software architectural discussions, influencing decisions, and collaborating with peers to maintain consistency across the organization

  • Identify and champion people and process improvement strategies for the team(s)

  • Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead organization towards its goals

      

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA degree required with preference for a Technology related field of study (Computer Science, Engineering, etc)

  • 7+ years of experience in Technology with 5+ years of software/systems engineering leadership experience

  • 5+ years’ experience managing direct reports

  • 5+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices

  • Experience with Content Management Solution, CRM, Customer experience management software preferred.

    Work Location: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and have a Hybrid work arrangement.
