Microsoft Corporation Technical Principal Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

As a Technical Principal Program Manager in the HPC/AI team, you will lead the end-to-end design of future supercomputing network architectures. Your scope will touch every facet of these interconnects, including Network Interface Card (NIC), cabling, switch, firmware, driver, security, telemetry and automation, routing algorithms, physical design, cooling, and more. This opportunity will allow you to work closely with and learn from the world’s leading HPC and AI training algorithm developers and end-users to co-design the networks of the futures for their fast evolving and mission critical needs. You will also develop the program management skills to lead diverse and cross functional teams of experts in the definition and execution of supercomputing program goals, and communicate your work up to leadership stakeholders both within and outside of Microsoft. Responsibilities

  • You will partner with Software, Hardware, and Datacenter Engineering to design and deliver supercomputer-scale networks to meet customer mission objectives. You’ll also give key stakeholders data-driven recommendations based on identified risks.

  • You will define success criteria and create relationships for implementing multiple feature areas for highly complex cross-functional projects. You’ll coordinate and ensure alignment across the business.

  • You will deliver on roadmap for multiple feature groups across divisions, track project schedules, drive development of staging and implementation plans, and lead governance programs.

  • You will drive continuous improvements by validating use cases and writing test cases from scratch. You’ll also provide expertise needed for departments to collect performance metrics, and define and lead direct customer engagements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).

  • 3+ years in the design, validation, and/or optimization of supercomputer networks and related interconnect technologies (e.g. InfiniBand, Slingshot, OmniPath, RoCE v2, AWS EFA, Google Cloud IPU, and similar).

  • 3+ years optimizing HPC/AI applications for IO bottlenecks in supercomputing architectures.

  • 1+ years working with HPC/AI networking, and compute, and/or storage vendors to define products and delivery schedules aligned to mission objectives of leadership supercomputing programs.

  • 1+ years working to define and implement security and/or compliance standards and capabilities for supercomputer networks and related interconnect technologies.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
