Amazon Sr. Embedded Software Dev. Engineer, Antenna Test, Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Join Amazon Project Kuiper. Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

In this role, you’ll be supporting the creation of the world’s fastest antenna test systems, that provide critical antenna performance data relative to our state-of-the-art hardware.

Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

You’ll support the data acquisition, interface to the test system, and processing of the data, interfacing with newly developed internal post-processing tools as well as third party software suites.

In this role, you will:

  • Own unique embedded software functions through design, implementation (in C, C++, RUST or other), test, and integration in an embedded Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment.

  • Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, I3C, SPI, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet, etc. communications.

  • Work closely with hardware teams to support board design, bring-up, and verification, as well as integration and test.

  • Interface with System Development engineers to automate data acquisition, transport and processing

  • Interface with Antenna Engineers to automate post-processing using third-party software suites and generation of test reports.

  • Follow best practices in high reliability embedded software development to ensure high levels of reliability and availability.

  • Design machine vision systems for metrology of the DUT’s pose in the test chamber

About the team

Our team develops the test infrastructure to validate functionality, performance and reliability of Satellite and Customer terminal antennas, including payload phased arrays.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

  • Experience developing embedded, real-time software in C, C++ required.

  • Experience with Embedded Linux and/or RTOS environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Hands-on experience in designing, developing and testing embedded software in C/C++ for high-reliability applications (satellite avionics, mission critical systems, communication systems, industrial control, automotive, medical devices etc.).

  • Knowledge/experience of board bring up, OS/driver level software development and debugging.

  • Knowledge/experience with telecommunications, data communications (routers and switches), Layer 1 of communications protocol stack

  • Experience with fieldbus communication protocols like EtherCAT

  • Experience with programming of 6DoF industrial and/or collaborative robotic arms (FANUC, UR…) using vendor-specific or vendor-agnostic robotic control languages

  • Experience with machine vision systems for metrology applications

  • Experience with automation of test equipment like spectrum analyzers, VSA, VSG, Oscilloscopes.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
