Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

Join the Azure Core Infrastructure Efficiency team and help build the world’s most efficient cloud platform. As a Software Engineer II on our team, you will be responsible for designing and building next-generation systems that improve the cost efficiency and sustainability of Azure datacenters. You will also design and develop system software that improves the power efficiency of our servers.

Additionally, you will work with the Azure Systems Research Group to evaluate power/energy and workload performance impact from hardware (e.g., CPU, GPU) power management features, and design policies for run-time server power and workload performance management. Responsibilities

  • You will create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.

  • You will maintain communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers.

  • You will contribute to efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility.

  • You will contribute to efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data with little oversight on a range of metrics (e.g., health of the system, where bugs might be occurring).

  • You will maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

  • You will contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, Java or Rust.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ years of cloud infrastructure development experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in computer architecture, especially in power and performance management.

  • Experience developing, debugging and maintaining code in C++ and C#.

  • Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

  • Experience in critical production online service environments.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
