Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

We are hiring a Software Engineer II to help us design and build systems and new data privacy products. Engineering Thrive is a cross-company collaboration providing consistent, quantitative, company-wide engineering metrics and supporting business processes to measure and improve Microsoft’s engineering efficiency and satisfaction. As a Software engineer II in the Thrive Engineering Team, you will join a diverse team that is responsible for collecting and providing raw engineering data across Microsoft. The team will also be responsible for supporting data analysts and metric owners to ensure data query quality and performance and ensuring these productivity metrics becoming real time actionable for more than 60,000 Microsoft engineers. This includes query reviews and optimization, orchestrating metric computations, adding them to dashboards visible to presidents around Microsoft as well as building a core platform that will allow data analysts and metric owners to become independent and help reduce the time for metric design and productization.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the Thrive Platform, including Metrics definitions and implementation, Experiences/UI, guidance, driving changes to data collections to support Thrive requirements and working closely with divisional champions that guide changes across Microsoft.

  • Develop metadata/classification for cohorts and other scenarios, implement new metrics, take feedback, and incorporate into platform, and contribute to platform.

  • Implement DORA (DevOps Research and Assessment) metrics specification, DORA metrics implementation, and drive source system instrumentation for DORA metrics.

  • Ensure that metrics have broad reach within Microsoft and can be easily onboard, and that leaders can self-serve and act on the metrics via UI and queries.

  • Dashboards and UI, provide guidance and tooling marketplace, and maintain a case studies library.

  • Ensure that signals move to quarterly cadence, maintain high response rates, make NSAT (net satisfaction) data available in UI, and classify verbatims with high quality.

  • Develop various data pipelines between existing data stores to combine data to enable high performance, cross-tore queries.

  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to support 1st party customers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of experience in SQL like languages and with data pipelining and/or data analytics.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
