Microsoft Corporation Senior Quality Engineer in Redmond, Washington

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for a Sr Quality Engineer to join the Azure HW Quality team, driving the quality of memory products.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and drive supplier quality management to ensure the highest level of manufacturing HW Quality for HB Memory and standard memory products.

  • Responsible for working with internal stakeholders and external suppliers on the integration of memory technologies into hardware infrastructure.

  • Technical contact that owns and drives failure analysis process and be a driving force in understanding root cause of hardware failures and gaps in our suppliers manufacturing quality processes.

  • Identify and drive collaborative quality improvement activities across Azure and external partners.

  • Drive proactive data analysis across multiple product lines to deliver a shift left culture.

  • Partner closely with engineering and reliability teams on improvement projects

  • Own the voice of quality for supplier selection and performance evaluation, be the SME for HW quality.

  • Establish, drive, and deliver dedicated metrics for several memory products.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12+ years relevant technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience working with memory devices.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience o OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience o OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.

  • 8+ years of memory industry or enterprise/cloud server experience.

  • 3+ years of supplier management experience

  • Experience working with HBM memory and related systems

  • Demonstrated experience as natural leader of cross functional teams with proficient project management skills.

  • Proficient understanding of quality tools such as 8D,CLCA ( close loop corrective action), SPC(statistic process control), FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis),GR&R(Gauge R&R)FAI (First article inspection)

  • General understanding of memory faults and fault modes.

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a global team

  • Ability to distill complex information in simple, easy-to-understand ways.

  • Ability to use and apply statistics to evaluate product reliability and highlight potential product risks – Six Sigma Greenbelt is a plus.

  • Historical demonstration of a growth mindset.

Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
