Within AI Platform, the Azure AI Search team powers rich search experiences for apps of all kinds. Integrates the best of Microsoft AI for content understanding, search relevance and more.

The generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution ignited the need for state-of-the-art retrieval systems. These retrieval systems are used by customers to create their own Copilot-style applications that combine large language models with external data. In Azure, the go-to retrieval system for these scenarios is Azure AI Search.

We’re looking for an experienced engineering leader to join our Frontend and Engineering Systems Team as a Principal Software Engineer. This is a rare opportunity to lead development of our Engineering Systems platform and frontend applications. Join us in this special point in time to help drive the next round of accelerated growth for our business by innovating our core AI cloud services.Engineering systems encompasses the overall secure development lifecycle for Azure AI Search including all internal developer tools, CI/CD process, operational tooling, overall service architecture, security fundamentals, service foundations and release management.

The engineering systems establishes frameworks, patterns and infrastructure to teams to self-service their release, compliance, and foundational needs. This enables fellow Azure AI Search engineers to release features securely and reliably through multiple complex environments.

The team also owns the APIs Azure customers use to manage their service lifecycle as well as store/retrieve their data. We provide the foundation to host web APIs in Azure safely and efficiently for management and data planes. This includes API versioning and REST specifications, throttling and concurrency enforcement, and integrations with Azure partners. With the frontend applications, the team has a tight feedback loop of utilizing the engineering system platform to demonstrate and model the adoption across Azure AI Search services.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in software engineering OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years experience of leading organization for the architecture and technical design of aspects of a product that include customer facing and infrastructure as a platform.

  • 2+ years experience successfully leading engineering teams that successfully deliver code into large engineering projects.

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
