Microsoft Corporation Principal Researcher - GenAI for Financial Services - Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington

The Research for Industry (RFI) initiative seeks to identify and accelerate scientific advances in technologies such as data platforms, connectivity, robotics, and AI and bring them to bear on opportunities in a variety of industries, including retail, financial services, energy, agri-food, and others.

As part of Research for Industry, we work closely with partners, customers, and field experts to enable the data-driven future of different businesses. In collaboration teams in Azure, our team of scientists and engineers invent new technologies to bring the best in cloud and AI to bear on the emerging challenges and opportunities in industry.

In this role, we are looking for Principal Researcher to help leverage the advancements in large models and Generative AI to develop transformative scenarios in Financial Services.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced industry expert, with a hands on background in AI, and experience working with customers in the Financial Services Industry (FSI). This individual will have an understanding of machine learning and be aware of FSI sub-verticals, such as Insurance, Banking, and Capital Markets.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate on disruptive ideas for the Financial Services Industry leveraging the latest AI innovations

  • Architect, design, and implement proof of concept demos/prototypes

  • Drive initial test of the ideas with customers

  • Work with Engineering, Sales, and BizDev teams to understand customer needs, and to help our customers try out the innovative ideas

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, researchers, and software engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Computer Science, Engineering, Financial Services or a related field AND 3+ years related research experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with the open-source GenAI ecosystem.

  • 3+ years of experience working with machine learning and large datasets.

  • 3+ years of experience building, optimizing and shipping/delivering applications and/or working with customers in Financial Services Industry (FSI).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to design and execute an original research/innovation agenda, with relevant experience.

  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Candidates must be able to collaborate effectively with other researchers. We are particularly interested in the candidates who can work across disciplinary boundaries.

  • Passionate about pushing the boundaries of FSI.

Research Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
