Microsoft Corporation Principal Research Software Development Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Research (MSR) is seeking applications for the position of Principal Research Software Development Engineer - GenAI to join their team in Redmond, WA.

We are seeking an engineer to join our team and contribute to the advancement of generative Artifical Intelligence (AI) agent framework. As a Principal Research Software Development Engineer - GenAI, you will play a crucial role in community building, governing technical direction, and address agile development needs of an open-source project, AutoGen. Your work will have a significant impact on the research and development of next-generation AI-agent applications powered by large language models and foundation models.

Responsibilities

  • Supports AutoGen, related teams and community in code reviews, issue triage, discuss on Discord and other community engagement channels.

  • Grow the community of users and developers of AutoGen.

  • Increase the adoption of AutoGen in products and research.

  • Improve the usability and user experience by building intuitive interfaces and integrating with the ecosystem.

  • Collaborate with research and engineering teams to determine user requirements and drive the project plans.

  • Identify emerging technology trends and science breakthroughs in generative AI and agents, anddrive important technical directions.

  • Address challenges in system design, architecture and implementation to unblock production deployment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in Python.

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years experience working with collaboration tools including, but not limited to, Git.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs)

  • Contributions to open-source projects

  • Familiarity withAI frameworks such as PyTorch

  • Familiarity with JavaScript, C#, C++, Java, C

  • Familiarity in Cloud stacks and architecture, such as Azure

  • Effective communication skills and the desire to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team

  • Deep understanding of computing systems

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
