We are looking for Principal Program Manager. Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

​​The Azure SQL team is looking for a Principal Product Manager with a passion for technology and for helping customers succeed on our platform by building the next set of industry-leading features and capabilities that will delight our customers. The candidate will help define the strategy and roadmap for the product, engage deeply with customers and partners, help them unblock adopt our technology, and learn about their application patterns. By connecting with the users of our service, product managers understand potential gaps in our portfolio as well as overall user experience to influence the direction of the service.

Responsibilities

Work with engineering team leaders on planning and executing the product vision.

Define roadmap, strategy and execution model of the product delivery, in partnership with our engineering team, customers and partners.

Partner with Microsoft field team, Microsoft Support and Data Platform Engineering to address customer escalations.

Represent the team and speak at conferences.

Form data-driven insights based on customer evidence, telemetry and industry analysis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

o OR equivalent experience.

· 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Familiarity with object storage, cloud storage and storage-based REST APIs, storage formats such as Parquet, Avro, Columnstore.

Familiarity with Scale-out systems for operational or analytical data processing.

Familiarity with Azure, AWS and GCP public clouds.​

Understanding and experience with connectivity and drivers for SQL server and Azure SQL.

Experience with relational database management systems, such as Azure SQL DB, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. and optionally in distributed systems or AI.

Experience as a data professional either in the field of data developers, data engineering, data science, DevOps or development.​

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
