The mission of M365 Security Team is to enable Microsoft to build the most trusted devices and services, while keeping our company safe and our data protected. As part of the Microsoft Security organization, and a steward of Microsoft and our customer's data, a core function of the M365 Security team is ensuring the security of every aspect of the business. M365 Security team is responsible for company-wide information security and compliance, with a strategic focus on information protection, assessment, awareness, governance, and enterprise business continuity.

As part of this critical mission, the Microsoft Security team is looking to hire a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager leader who is capable of fostering borderless collaboration within complex landscapes. This role demands unwavering commitment to achieving critical security outcomes for our customers, and is pivotal in safeguarding Microsoft 365 infrastructure and the infrastructure of related services.

The incumbent will spearhead technological and engineering initiatives aimed at fortifying M365, specifically focuses on key areas such as identity, access control, secure deployment, and code security. Success in this role hinges on close collaboration with the M365 service team to deeply understand service architecture and identify innovative ways to elevate security standards. Responsibilities

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios. Leverages a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Leads incorporation of appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value. Begins to determine additional critical metrics.

  • Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost). Creates proposals for architecture and design documents and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions. Shares and acts on findings from investigations, owns design decisions, and oversees the junior team members.

  • Leads the development of design documents for designs or User Stories and determines the technology that will be leveraged and how they will interact.

  • Leads design discussions with the team and shares findings/learnings from investigations, holding ownership for design decisions. Leads efforts to assure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements and expectations.

  • Leads efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, interprets results, and decides on next steps or ship decision from results. Drives identification of the correct metrics for experimentation in determining improving customer value.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of people management experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
