Responsibilities

As a Principal Architect in the Windows AI team, you will report to the Vice President of Engineering in a Staff role, guiding teams using C++, C#, WinRT and WinUI, and of course AI technologies, to design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality software solutions for Windows users.

As one of a handful of our most senior software architects in Windows, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with organization leaders, and work across a supportive group of like-minded Architects across disciplines who deeply interact across all software disciplines. You will contribute your leadership and communication skills to help define or refine our overall business and technical vision, including the “architectural how” of building scalable architectures with great fundamentals (such as performance, power, and reliability) and with high engineering rigor.

Prospective candidates will be requested to author a brief, 2-page vision document outlining the opportunities they see applying AI to Windows, across customer/business/technical dimensions, to demonstrate executive communication and thinking.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience architecting and shipping large scale projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Ablity to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.

  • Analytical skills with systematic and structured approach to software design.

  • Ability expressing ideas to a mixed audience with varying views and challenges.

  • Ownership and accountability, with the ability to develop and deliver to deadlines while managing internal stakeholder expectations.

  • Self-motivated with a drive for reaching across teams and organizations to make progress collaboratively.

  • Previous Staff or Principal level position held is abonus.

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
