Microsoft Corporation Network Sourcing Engineer in Redmond, Washington

We're looking for a Network Sourcing Engineering candidate with experience sourcing leased and owned network circuits as well as colocation space and power. You must be able support, influence, and deliver network infrastructure sourcing/acquisition services in a fast-paced production environment—you must be agile and able to adapt to changing conditions and priorities. This role also requires analytical, communication, and collaboration skills. You will be working with cross-functional teams across various disciplines and will need to identify and partner groups to achieve joint and/or complimentary goals. Managing mulitiple projects, driving contractual improvements through service agreements, and lowering costs resulting in measurable impact are also experiences needed to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Defines, maintains, and executes sourcing strategies for all aspects of cloud infrastructure network in the Americas including metro, long haul, and network colocation with minimal guidance, to ensure advantaged cost and sufficient continuity of supply while meeting quality goals (e.g., sustainability, repairability, etc.).

  • Considers all relevant elements of technical roadmaps and business requirements (e.g., risk management, investments, supplier relationship, technology adoption) and coordinates cross-functionally to develop strategies and influence decisions.

  • Manages commercial and contractual negotiation activities and develops strategies with consensus from their team, ensuring that both price and capacity needs are met, and that cost reduction opportunities are identified. Where appropriate, ensures compliance with Microsoft's requirements for cross functional engagements with suppliers with minimal guidance.

  • Researches market and industry trends. Performs analyses of supplier pricing, cost, capabilities, and capacity to provide materials and/or components for Microsoft products and/or services, and uses the results to make sourcing recommendations.

  • Supports internal cross-functional partnerships by maintaining awareness of and resolving internal partners' issues and challenges, influencing near-term sourcing decisions by sharing similar details with others teams, and adhering to established processes and governance for on-boarding and managing supplier partnerships to ensure continuity of supply in alignment with product and/or service roadmaps with minimal guidance or need for escalation.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Design, Software Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience in networking technologies (operations, delivery, planning, engineering, etc.).

  • 4+ years of experience in strategic negotiations and/or business development obtaining services and assets from technology providers in data center and Internet technologies (Dedicated Internet Access, wavelength, dark fiber lease and/or indefeasible rights of use agreement contracting).

  • 1+ years experience with contract development and vendor management.

  • 1+ years strategic negotiations and/or business development obtaining services from high-technology providers in data center and Internet technologies.

  • Understanding of Fiber terminology and associated technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience with circuit delivery.

  • Understanding of domestic and global carrier networks.

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
