Microsoft Corporation High Performance Computing Backend Network Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

As a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Backend Network Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in realizing our HPC specialized backend network infrastructure. Your expertise in high-speed networking and in-depth understanding of InfiniBand and Ethernet protocols will be instrumental in enhancing the efficiency, scalability, performance, and reliability of our HPC systems.

Responsibilities

  • Software design: Evaluate, design, develop, deploy and operate software solutions to ensure seamless integration with existing systems and meet customer requirements.

  • Configuration and deployment: Configure, deploy, and test InfiniBand- and Ethernet-based networking solutions, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to industry best practice for high-performance computing environments.

  • Performance optimization: Analyze network performance metrics. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in the network infrastructure to maximize data throughput and minimize latency.

  • Security and reliability: Implement robust security measures to safeguard data integrity and privacy in the HPC backend netwwork. Ensure high availability and reliability of the network through redundancy and failover mechanisms.

  • Documentation and reporting: Create comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configuration guides, operational procedures, and performance reports. Communicate effectively with stakeholders and management.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • Experience with high-speed networking technologies such as InfiniBand, Ommi-Path, or Ethernet.

  • Knowledge of RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) and MPI (Message Passing Interface) programming models.

Cloud Network Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
