Within CO+I, the Cloud Innovation Services & Solutions team is responsible for delivering solutions and services that enable reliable cloud growth and operational excellence, including end to end program management, security, risk and governance, planning, learning and development, sustainability & ESG.  

The Sustainability & Envrionmental, Social and Governance team focuses on driving CO+I performance in alignment to the existing corporate-wide commitments, establishing preferred datacenter sustainability public policies and whitepapers, preparing for & managing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) requirements, and ensuring timely and accurate disclosure.

We are seeking an experienced Envrionmental, Social and Governance Disclosure Director to support CO+I’s ESG reporting efforts, more specifically leading ESG Disclosure Management for CO+I in collaboration with the Foresight & Planning Data and Operational Integration teams, as well as data owners across the organisation.

You will lead a small team dedicated to ESG disclosure and will collaborate across a broad set of stakeholders within CO+I and Microsoft. You will manage qualitative and quantitative ESG data disclosure to industry bodies and regulators, contribute to Microsoft’s companywide ESG reporting and/or respond to customers and other 3rd parties’ ESG information needs. You will design disclosure processes for scalability, consistency and accuracy and constantly seek to improve the quality of CO+I’s ESG disclosure with a focus on cross-functional relationships and company-wide alignment.

You are excited about setting ESG disclosure best practices for the cloud industry, driving transparency that our customers and partners can leverage for informed investment decision-making, and you constantly look for ways to reduce the burden on the teams you operate and collaborate with whilst driving accountability across the organization to help translate ESG requirements into a compete opportunity.

You thrive in a complex, matrixed environment where influence without control and building enduring trusted relationships is at the core of success. You work effectively across multiple time zones, backgrounds and cultures, you are fluent in English and can communicate efficiently with senior executives, engineering and operations. You bring a strategic perspective across all of CO+I’s ESG disclosure efforts, supporting the team by innovating and removing complexity. You have been successful working within a matrixed organizational structure where you lead through influence and teamwork. You work comfortably on strategic work in addition to the tactical, but critical architecture and deliverables that underpin the success of individuals across the team.  

  

Success in this role means you have designed and govern an end-to-end best in class ESG disclosure process that is reliable and simple, drives efficiency and consistency at speed and can rapidly scale to accommodate both planned and off-cycle disclosure.

This position requires significant sustainability and/or ESG reporting experience, leadership, strategic planning, and project management skills. The ESG Disclosure Director, will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on CO+I’s ESG efforts and play a key role in supporting Microsoft’s ability to meet policymakers, customers, investors and industry ESG expectations.

Responsibilities

  • *Comprehensive ESG Reporting: * Prepare and submit qualitative and quantitative data to meet regulatory requirements (ex. EED, CSRD, Taxonomy), customer & industry expectations (ex. CNDCP, TCFD) and MSFT sustainability report needs​ and ensure consistency throughout all ESG related disclosure

  • *ESG Reporting Insights: * Produce comprehensive ESG reports that provide a detailed overview of CO+I’s environmental, social, and governance performance, aligned with Microsoft requirements and relevant standards and frameworks​

  • *ESG Customer Inquiry and Request Coordination: * Manage inquiries and requests from customers, media and benchmarking agencies regarding ESG-related matters, providing relevant information and support as needed​

  • *Lessor Coordination: * Coordinate reporting obligations related to ESG performance for datacenter partners, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and industry standards​

  • *Strategic External Communication: * Develop and execute strategic communication plans to transparently convey the organization's ESG initiatives and achievements to external stakeholders​, making ESG reporting best practices a competitive advantage

  • *Active Stakeholder Involvement: * Engage with internal stakeholders across CO+I and Microsoft to gather feedback, address concerns, and foster collaborative relationships in support of ESG goals and objectives​

  • *Adherence to Global Risk Standards: * Ensure that the reporting is aligned with the corporate risk mitigation plans, guidelines andmethodologies (data perspective)​

  • Process improvement *: * Focus on continuous improvement of the ESG reporting processes

  • ESG C oordinatio n: cascade data requirements and work seamlessly with the ESG Data Management, Foresight & Planning and Operational Integration teams

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare content for senior management review and approval, communicate progress & performance and share insights from ESG data initiatives 

  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage the ESG disclosure team with a focus on integration withall stakeholders engaged in the reporting processand alignment with Microsoft’s companywide ESG disclosure requirements and expectations

Qualifications

Required/ *Minimum Qualifications: *

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 7+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related areao OR 10+ years experience in corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, corporate affairs, or related area.

  • Bachelor's degree AND 7+ years of experience in sustainability data management and/or ESG data management within a large, multi-national, matrixed organization

  • OR Master’s degree AND 5+ years of experience in sustainability data management and/or ESG data management within a large, multi-national, matrixed organization

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Exceptional written, presentation, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and concisely with stakeholders and leaders about ESG data management objectives and priorities, governance, analytics, gaps and remedies

  • Proficient at Microsoft Office suite of products, incl. Microsoft Azure, Fabric, Excel, Power BI, Power Point, Teams, Copilot.

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Proficient in 3rd party software, such as Enablon

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).

  • Further data management certifications (CISA, Certified Azure Data Engineer Associate, CIPP) are an advantage.

  • Certified Azure Data Scientist Associate.

  • Further data analytics certifications (CAP, CDS) are an advantageDemonstratedtrack record of creating innovative approaches to data management and governance.

  • Demonstrated track record of impact on a global data program with clear targets and milestones.

  • Ability to develop and simultaneously execute an ESG data strategy.

  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and surface insights to make informed decisions.

  • Seasoned at prioritizing and executing in complex and ambiguous situations.

  • Ability to influence with limited control, manage conflicting priorities and work across multiple time zones.

  • Highly inclusive leadership and interpersonal skills and demonstrated resilience and optimism.

  • Ability to adapt in the face of change and ambiguity.

  • Experienced at building support with stakeholders and collaborating with diverse, cross-sector stakeholder groups. 

Corporate Social Responsibility M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $242,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $264,000 per year.
