Microsoft Corporation Environmental Health & Safety Manager in Redmond, Washington

The Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) business is critical to delivering on this mission and vision, building and operating Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, which is growing rapidly in response to unprecedented demand for Microsoft services. CO+I operate one of the largest cloud networks on the planet – comprised of more than 160 Datacenters, 130+ edge sites, 2+ million miles of fiber, and millions of servers and network and storage devices.

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation Organization (CO+I) is seeking a Environmental Health & Safety Manager for the New Technology Introduction team within the Office of the CTO (Chief Technology Officer). Role will work closely with Technology team, R&D Facility operations team, Construction, Design, and EHS team. As an Environmental Health and Safety Manager the work you do will drive the prevention of incidents and illnesses through the implementation of high-risk-activity management processes, emergency response planning, and safety protocols in dynamic facility operations environment.

This role will develop, own and drive process improvement in the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) framework within Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organizations to deliver key results that align with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for the implementation of the EHS programs for specific Microsoft Facilities.

  • Inspect, audit, conduct workplace risk/exposure assessments, and review safe work practices to ensure compliance with regulations and Microsoft CO+I EHS policies.

  • Support incident investigations and root cause analysis, so that corrective and preventive actions can be identified, communicated globally, and implemented.

  • Monitor, interpret and communicate summaries of standards and regulatory requirements to assure compliance and proactive management of risk.

  • Analyze safety metrics and communicate results to leadership to drive action and accountability.

  • Work with leaders, staff, and contractors at all levels to implement effective solutions.

  • Present topical information/metrics on a regular basis to site leadership teams.

  • Assess organizational capability and requirements, identifying tactics to improve performance, and developing strategic approaches to manage risk.

  • Ensures safety equipment inventory is maintained, and required periodic inspection and maintenance is completed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety and Health Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, related field AND 4+ years experience in Environmental Health and Safety Worldwide Regulations

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 5+ years Environmental Health and Safety Worldwide Regulations experience

  • OR Master's Degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 6+ years Environmental Health and Safety Worldwide Regulations experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Working knowledge of U.S Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and standards and other non-regulatory safety standards applicable to the location.

  • Record of accomplishment preventing injuries, developing/implementing robust processes and management systems, and in building productive collaborative relationships with internal/external business partners.

  • Experience managing Environmental, Health and Safety in large-scale mission critical infrastructure preferred.

  • Communicator and influencer who can build credibility and capable of negotiating successful outcomes with key business leaders.

  • Project management experience with the ability to lead teams, produce and maintain timelines, create dashboards and track metrics, and assemble project information into clearly written reports that document findings, actions and progress.

  • Hold any of the following certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).

Environmental Health & Safety IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $91,800 - $178,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $117,900 - $195,000 per year.
