BYU BYUSA Student Advisory Council Coordinator in PROVO, Utah

The essential functions of this position require in person work. Any exceptions are granted by university policies through employee relations. This position is located inan on campus workspace with the expectation that work takes place on campus to provide in person services and availability to BYU students, staff, administrators, and campus community during established and regular office hours.
Each full-time employee in Student Connection and Leadership Center is to encourage, facilitate, orchestrate, and support student efforts to fulfill the Student Connection and Leadership Center Vision and Mission, which center around: integrity, skill and talent development, inclusion, service, Christ-centered leadership, and student-focused experiences. The BYUSA Student Advisory Council Coordinator has primary responsibility for the BYUSA Student Advisory Council area in the Center, which includes mentorship, training, and policy/procedure education of all area¿s leaders and volunteers. Additionally, this position is responsible for the creation, planning, organization, and implementation of student representative and volunteer efforts, including research and dialogue with campus administrators and faculty. Area purpose and objectives are achieved by providing oversight in a developmental environment, establishing appropriate policies, providing informed coordination within university guidelines, conducting assessment of programs, and reporting plans, progress, and results to the direct supervisor. In a broader sense, the Coordinator is accountable to the university for all actions, programs, and student engagement of the BYUSA Student Advisory Council Area and other associated department responsibilities as assigned.
There is an expectation that they remain current and relevant in the field. There is an expectation and support for ongoing professional development. Event days often require physical exertion in setting up and taking down events, extended periods of walking and standing, and enduring variable weather conditions. In addition to essential functions of the job performed during regular office hours, this position may require work on nights and weekends for the purpose of providing services to students, achieving the objectives of departments, and contribute to the mission of Campus Life.
Department Responsibilities
Conduct macro and micro evaluations of department, area, and program efforts to assess inclusivity of individuals and ability to meet the needs of the collective student body
Creation, modification, and maintenance of online content for the department website
Develop, maintain, and execute an evaluation, assessment, and implementation plan to (1) measure progress against area/program purpose and objectives and to (2) inform future efforts
Foster and maintain relationships with college, department, and administrative connections
Maintain the integrity of the department budgeting, finance, and purchasing process
Professional Development
Investigate and participate in professional skills development and student affairs knowledge acquisition, including but not limited to presenting; participating in conferences, workshops, a nd seminars; and serving in professional organizations where time and circumstance permit
Meet weekly with director to report, problem-solve, collaborate, and receive direction and instruc ion
Student Development
Conduct performance evaluations with student employees to offer and solicit feedback
Create meaningful connections between Student Connection and Leadership Center Vision and Mission, as well as area program objectives, to student volunteer efforts and the use of allocated resources
Create meaningful connections from the BYU Mission and Aims to department efforts and use of allocated resources
Facilitate increased student involvement, leadership opportunities, progression, decision-making accountability
Mentors students through the research process and the administrative environment at BYU
Provide mentorship, guidance, direction, and instruction to area vice presidents and their leadership teams
Provide oversight for student involvement in the budgeting and purchasing process
Scaffold a student experience that allows for spiritual, professional, and character development (e.g. oral and written communication; evaluation, assessment, and implementation skills; problem solving; experience design and management skills; religious convictions; increased awareness of strengths; goal setting and attainment)
Teach and model the Student Leadership Vision and Mission to student volunteers, leaders and employees
Train students on the creation, analysis, and utilization of data
Train students on creating, organizing, and executing effective, objective focus groups, surveys, and other data collection instruments
Train, teach, supervise, and direct the work of student employees
Program Management
Assume responsibility for class (Student Development 358R) structure and outline, course content, assignments, grading, and all other associated responsibilities as determined by Student Connection and Leadership Center and dictated by Student Development
Create, develop, and hone evaluation and assessment tools, including an area purpose statement and objectives, to measure area efforts to fulfill the department Vision and Mission
Define volunteer involvement opportunities and develop and implement effective recruitment strategies, including collaborative efforts
Direct budget allocations, experience design and management, and work distribution
Ensure accuracy and relevancy of data and conclusions gathered through the area evaluation and assessment process
Maintain and manage Student Advisory Council representative applications, selections, and class registration
Promote and support innovation and technology to improve the efficacy of programming in fulfilling Student Leadership Vision and Mission and efficiency by maximizing resources
Provide event/activity oversight, in terms of experience design, volunteer involvement, scheduling, budgeting, staffing, risk management, equipment, AV support, crowd control, evaluation, administrative approval, ticketing, marketing and promotion, etc.

Required:
Bachelor's degree and 1 year student affair experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Master's degree and 3 year student affair experience in higher education
