The Resource Manager will play a crucial role in optimizing resource allocation between functional line managers and project managers. This position requires a strategic mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders. The Resource Manager will be responsible for coordinating the allocation of resources to ensure optimal project delivery while maximizing resource utilization and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Core Duties:

  • Collaborate with functional line managers and project managers to understand project requirements, resource availability, and priorities.

  • Develop and maintain a resource management process that facilitates effective allocation of resources across projects.

  • Coordinate the assignment of resources to projects based on skill sets, availability, and project priorities.

  • Monitor resource utilization and identify opportunities to optimize resource allocation and utilization.

  • Work closely with project managers to identify resource constraints and develop solutions to address resource shortages or conflicts.

  • Facilitate resource planning meetings to review project resource requirements and adjust resource allocation as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records of resource assignments, availability, and utilization.

  • Communicate resource allocation decisions to stakeholders and ensure alignment with project objectives and organizational goals.

  • Provide guidance and support to project managers and functional line engineering managers on resource management best practices.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve the resource management process to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with PPPL’s management team and system administrators to implement best practices for Resource Management by Smartsheet (formerly known as 10,000ft).

  • Provide support and guidance to team members on Smartsheet and Resource Management (RM), including conducting demos for new team members.

  • Generate RM reports as needed and provide training to administrators on report creation.

  • Educate team members on the capabilities and functions of Resource Management by Smartsheet, including People, Placeholders, Roles, Disciplines, Bill Rates, and Locations.

  • Identify and resolve data reporting discrepancies by liaising with relevant team members.

  • Synthesize utilization data to make quarterly staffing recommendations to company leadership, providing insights into upcoming project requirements.

  • Collaborate with department leadership to audit, recommend, and improve workflows as necessary.

    Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, operations management, engineering, or related field.

  • Proven experience in resource management, project management, or related roles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of Smartsheet Suite applications with a deep understanding of Excel (required).

  • Detailed knowledge of Resource Management by Smartsheet (preferred).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.

  • Experience in the engineering or technology industry is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Smartsheet Core Product, Project Management, or System Administrator Certifications are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform assigned functions independently with minimal supervision from a remote environment.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a remote position. Occasional travel to PPPL may be required to include onboarding.
