Universal Health Services Program Manager in PORTSMOUTH, Virginia

Responsibilities

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center is seeking a Residential Director to join our team. The position does require therapist to work hours in the evening and on weekends.

Position Scope :

  • Provides assistance and support to the management of the milieu and unit/ units assigned as well as leadership, administrative direction and supervision of staff.

  • Ensures consistent use of the residential care process in providing quality care and acts as a resource to all direct care staff.

  • Assists in training residential care staff.

  • Implements programming and provides ongoing training and supervision to create and maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu.

  • Maintains patient safety.

  • Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols.

  • Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care.

  • Provides primary channels of communication for physicians, therapists, caseworkers, CEO, DON, facility managers and administrators.

  • Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications :

    Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information. Must possess knowledge of therapeutic relationships as it relates to children and adolescents, therapeutic processes, child/adolescent growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behaviors. Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations. On call requirements required. An individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily.     Education /Experience :

    Must possess either a baccalaureate degree in social work or psychology and two years of professional experience working with children one year of which must have been in a residential facility for children; a high school diploma or a General Education Development Certificate (G.E.D.) and a minimum of five years working with children with at least two years in a residential facility for children; or a combination of education and experience working with children as approved by the department. Must have a minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a residential facility.

    Licensure/Certification :

    Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid

    Physical Requirements :

    Must be able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain when necessary. Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.

    Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.

    Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge.
