Actalent Medical Laboratory Technologist in Portland, Oregon

Description:

Medical Technologist (MT)

(Also referred to as: Medical Lab Technologist (MLT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), and/or Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS))

Prepare patient samples for testing and determine acceptability of specimens and results. Repeat specimen testing as necessary to ensure accuracy.

Perform Hematology, Chemistry and Urinalysis testing.

Perform laboratory tests and procedures using techniques such as ELISA, RNA extraction, flow cytometry, and more.

Perform a variety of manual, semi-automated and automated Biochemical, Hematological, Microbiological and/or Blood Bank analysis on varied patient specimens, maintaining a high degree of accuracy, reliability and productivity.

Maintain, calibrate, operate, & troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.

Accurately prepare, label and store reagents, standards, controls, and specimens for analysis.

Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.

Participates in quality assurance & quality improvement activities.

Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.

Recognizes normal, abnormal, unusual and critical results and takes appropriate action as established by laboratory policy.

Verify accuracy of results and initiate corrective action when indicated.

Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or other related science.

Certified Medical Technologist (MT) -OR- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) -OR- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) (Certification must be from one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT)).

2+ years of experience working in a hospital or clinical/diagnostic laboratory.

Blood Bank experience is highly preferred.

Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instruments.

Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Proficient with computers - familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus.

High level of attention detail.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Coachable and ability to take and initiate feedback well.

Proven history of reliability and positive attendance.
