This position will include an additional 15% in compensation.

SUMMARY:Responsible for planning instruction and/or adapting the education program to enable students to benefitfrom educational experiences. This position is exempt from Fair Labor Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned.

Monitors students general health.

Monitors student progress toward IEP goals.

Plans curriculum, lessons, and teaching methods.

Instructs individual and groups in special and general education skill areas.

Facilitates and coordinates students in general education classes.

Assists individual students with self-care and daily living skills.

Monitors student behavior in areas outside of the classroom, during lunch, recess, bus time, general education classes, and school assemblies.

Evaluates student progress based on work samples and observation.

Meets district and site professional development requirements.

Maintains contact with parents and/or students via phone or written communications.

Prepares report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.

Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes and, in general, maintains a neat and orderly room appearance.

Completes all required special education paperwork in a timely manner to meet compliance deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICALSKILLS:Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and it.
