Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the Refrigeration Mechanic is to maximize refrigeration equipment up time, maintain the facility appearance and be a direct resource to the Refrigeration Team Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Through continuous development and maintenance of the refrigeration systems and all equipment the refrigeration mechanic will enable operations to meet production demands.

• Maintain a high level of urgency in responding to all the refrigeration trouble calls.
• Maintain, test and inventory all safety equipment used in the ammonia refrigeration process to assure its in excellent working condition on a monthly basis.
• Obtain the knowledge and follow all rules and regulations of the PSM program.

Maintain a proper inventory of stocked parts used in the upkeep of the refrigeration process by utilizing the CMMS, MP2 system.

Complete all trouble response efforts, use all safety measures available and communicate all efforts completed with fellow refrigeration engineers.

Insure that all startup and shutdowns of the refrigeration systems are completed utilizing the standard operating procedures from the PSM program.

Communicate with Maintenance Team Leaders, Production Managers, Production Associates, and fellow mechanics when performing daily, weekly, and monthly PMs and travel paths.

• Perform daily, weekly, monthly and yearly preventive maint. procedures on all refrigeration equipment to maintain the systems integrity and assist the engineers in daily maintenance operations.

Attend and participate in all safety, staff, etc. meetings and activities.

• Assist the Refrigeration Team Leader with the on-going development and upkeep the Process Safety Management Program.

Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Knowledge of multiple plant systems, including, but not limited to refrigeration, water, wastewater, air, boiler, cryogenic, and mechanical processing systems in a USDA processing environment.
• Quick and effective decision-making skill for repair of facilities and processing equipment to minimize downtime of processing operations.
• Computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, and PC programs relating to system operation and control. Knowledge of email and internet programs
• Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and procedures within a USDA inspected processing facility
• Good English communications skills, both orally and written
• Must be able to successfully pass a Physical and Pulmonary function test

Education and/or Experience:

3 years experience in operation maintenance and repair of ammonia refrigeration, and other facilities related systems in a food processing environment.
