Kelly Services Microbiology Laboratory Manager in Plymouth, Minnesota

Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Laboratory Manager for a direct-hire (permanent) position with a client in the greater Minneapolis, MN area. Target Salary: $100k-$120k/year

SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing laboratory operations and maintaining direct contact with the laboratory client base. This position ensures efficient and accurate generation and communication of microbiological and chemical testing results. The Laboratory Manager collaborates closely with the corporate team and delegates responsibilities within the laboratory management team as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise laboratory operations to maintain quality, efficiency, and turnaround time on lab work.

  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to customer questions or concerns to uphold high levels of customer service.

  • Serve as the hiring manager for the laboratory; oversee personnel reviews and professional development.

  • Manage laboratory financials to ensure profitability.

  • Ensure ISO 17025 compliance and implementation of the Corporate Quality Management System.

  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the laboratory; oversee building and equipment maintenance.

  • Implement and uphold the Laboratory Safety Program.

  • Supervise non-routine projects per client request and assignments.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and maintain technical competence through ongoing education and professional development.

  • Conduct periodic audits of laboratory staff to ensure compliance with methods.

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding laboratory capabilities, results, pricing, and related topics.

  • Travel as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Authorized for method verification.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and oversee 5 - 20 staff members depending on laboratory volume.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred BS/MS Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or related field; technical procedures or governmental regulations preferred or pursuing, or equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
