Spectrum Plastics Group Process Engineer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Responsible for all aspects of injection molding process development for new, incoming, and existing tools. Coordinate all activities required to ensure a successful start-up to new processes, uninterrupted production and maintaining overall company scrap rate goals. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities - Sampling of new, modified or customer supplied tools. Coordinate Sample Orders and provide efficient mold sampling and data collection. - Coordinate with production, engineering, toolroom, quality, and maintenance to ensure all aspects of new production runs are complete prior to actual production. - Process development, process capability, IQ OQ PQ validations and design of experiments, SPC, machine technology, and capability studies. Use of SIM tools (RJG eDart based) and other advanced platforms to develop robust processing windows on new and current tool and process capability studies, evaluations and recommendations. - Develop and execute protocols and reports as required to support validation activities. Including SIM tool documentation, process analysis and reporting of data in clear format to be used in Validation Reports - Participate in Program (Design) Reviews. Recommend efficient mold design for optimum functionality and processing capability and quality. - Identify all necessary requirements for production and processing. - Identify and document tooling / process shortcomings and recommend needed changes and/or improvements. To facilitate the discussion and review of problems with in-house tool personnel / process development teams and to assist in a documented plan with each customer / tool. - Evaluate equipment and recommend improvement or replacement. Act as liaison between Production, Engineering, Quality and sales on all process / tool related issues. Perform design of experiments to improve process and part quality. - Identify and schedule repairs on any equipment critical to controlling the molding process. Troubleshoot any equipment suspected of malfunction and tag them (limited use or do not use). Develop a plan of attack with manufacturing / production to schedule, troubleshoot and accomplish all applicable repairs. Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to formulate maintenance schedules on equipment. - Troubleshoot production jobs for continuous improvement opportunities (cycle time, scrap reduction, documentation clarity, etc.) as required. Assist with start-ups and changeovers when required. - Assist in the development of a preventative maintenance plan and refine plan on an ongoing basis for new tools or equipment. - Commit to continuous improvement and develop molding technology at Apex Resource Technologies. - Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and is committed to continuous improvement in all job functions Experience, Skills, Education, And Training - Bachelor\'s Degree preferred, minimum high school diploma or equivalent - 5-7 years of injection molding processing experience required - Master Molder Training required - Has been trained on the fundamentals of Scientific Molding which includes gate freeze, viscosity curve, short shot studies, pressure drops and performing DOE\'s. - Has the general understanding and knowledge of pressure transducers, de-coupled molding and the interactions with injection molding machines. - Has the capabilities and knowledge to set-up and document Process alarm settings. Work Environment And Physical Demands - Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. - Must have good vision - Must have manual dexterity - Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time - Repetitive motions are required - Must be able to move 1100 lb. gaylords with a pallet jack - Requires frequent bending, squatting, and twisting motions - Must be able to climb stepladders - Must be able to climb up and down stairs
