UPMC Technician, Anesthesia in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside seeks Technician (Anesthesia) (multiple openings) to work in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA to assist with the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative placement of invasive monitoring lines, such as arterial, venous, and pulmonary artery catheters; assemble necessary drugs, syringes, and needles; retrieve and appropriately distribute the equipment and medications necessary to prepare a patient for anesthesia; prepare, test, and set up a variety of anesthetic equipment for surgical use; troubleshoot equipment for problems or repairs; perform preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of equipment; appropriately stock the carts and surgical suites with the required supplies; assist in the delivery and retrieval of blood samples to and from the laboratory; disassemble, decontaminate, and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies; perform diagnostic laboratory testing procedures; maintain complete and accurate records and reports; and maintain inventory of anesthesia supplies and drugs by requisitioning and restocking them.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative placement of invasive monitoring lines, such as arterial, venous, and pulmonary artery catheters;

  • Assembles necessary drugs, syringes, and needles;

  • Retrieves and appropriately distributes the equipment and medications necessary to prepare a patient for anesthesia;

  • Prepares, tests, and sets up a variety of anesthetic equipment for surgical use;

  • Troubleshoots equipment for problems or repairs;

  • Performs preventative maintenance and routine cleaning of equipment;

  • Appropriately stocks the carts and surgical suites with the required supplies;

  • Assists in the delivery and retrieval of blood samples to and from the laboratory;

  • Disassembles, decontaminates, and sterilizes anesthesia equipment and supplies;

  • Performs diagnostic laboratory testing procedures;

  • Maintains complete and accurate records and reports;

  • Maintains inventory of anesthesia supplies and drugs by requisitioning and restocking them.

  • Associate’s degree in anesthesia technology or related field; OR

  • High school/GED and two years of experience as an anesthesia technician or in a substantially similar position in a hospital or patient care setting, performing all of the job duties listed above.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified.
