Broadcom's Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for a highly-skilled technical writer with experience writing for software in an Agile environment. Mainframe experience is desired, but it is not required.

In-office attendance daily is required for this position as it is an agile team environment with in-person collaboration being a key mode. Remote candidates need not apply.

Mainframe systems are at the heart of the digital economy, with 80% of the world's structured corporate data residing or originating on mainframes, and 55% of all enterprise applications hitting the mainframe to complete transactions. Our industry-leading products are critical to many Fortune 1000 companies.

This position is responsible for leading others to create, curate, use, and deliver end-user technical documentation for high-tech IT audiences, which must be accurate and developed in an Agile team setting. Mentors others in producing accurate content that complies with standards and is audience appropriate.

Skills & Competencies

Demonstrate mastery with tools including Adobe Experience Manager, Github, Microsoft Office, Confluence, Acrolinx, and other industry products and technology including operating systems, programming concepts, and source control.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation and Management

Partner with stakeholders, customers, and Agile teams to design, create, test, curate, and deliver accurate, clear, and concise technical content for one or more products that is appropriate for multiple audiences as part of multiple Agile teams.

Participate in peer reviews for own and other's work.

Collect, analyze, and share data to improve the customer's experience by improving the quality of a product's content.

Define and advocate for multi-year content roadmaps for one or more products.

Advocate for content the customer can find and use easily, including championing department initiatives to provide quality content (such as lean content).

Review the user interface (UI), partner with user experience (UX) designers to suggest ways to make the UI intuitive, and provide content that can be embedded in the UI.

Monitor and respond to customers using a variety of mechanisms to address customer feedback and ensure that content meets their needs.

Function as a subject matter expert for products.

Leadership

Develop and implement efficient ways to manage work and overcome roadblocks to meet deadlines.

Responsible for own professional growth and development by staying current with department and industry standards, by understanding products, customers, and competitors, by meeting training deadlines, and by setting challenging goals for growth.

Demonstrate the flexibility to take on new products and assignments as business needs require.

Represent the company by attending, presenting, and exerting influence at Broadcom and industry conferences, symposiums, and standards bodies.

Communicate, collaborate, coach/mentor, and innovate with others in alignment with core values.

Leverage partnerships with other departments (such as Education, Marketing, Product Management) to understand and improve the customer's experience.

Lead content initiatives across multiple Agile teams.

Mentor teammates, coordinate the work of multiple content authors when assigned as team lead, and help others manage their work and meet milestones.

Interact with cross-functional stakeholders to understand their function and business needs concerning technical content

Enable Agility

Be a role model for Agile team participation by actively participating in all aspects of Agile development, including ceremonies, planning, and end of sprint demos.

Participate in setting, meeting, and reviewing team commitments for both Agile and writing teams.

Proactively drive improvements and solutions by using a well-developed understanding of assigned products, customers, competitors, standards, tools, and processes.

Job-Specific Authority and Scope

Generally works without consulting their manager.

Independent decisions are made daily.

Examples of typical decisions without manager consultation: Determines how content is structured for a product. Coordinates work assignments for a writing team. Determine content needs for variety of audiences.

Business Travel and Physical Demands

Business travel of approximately10 percent yearly can be expected for this position, determined by need and project locations.

This position is specifically located in the Broadcom office in Pittsburgh, PA.

Education Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communications, Computer Science, or global 4-year equivalent in a related field is REQUIRED. Master's degree preferred; special consideration given to technical or engineering degree holders who can demonstrate composition and technical writing skills.

Work Experience Typically 8 or more years in an industry-related role. Typically has worked in technical communication, technical support, system administration, or product development type roles with heavy exposure to engineering.

Additional Job Description: Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $84,000- $135,000

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
