UPMC Research Associate - Pharmaceutics Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Research Associate – Basic Science to support the Pharmaceutics Laboratory!

The Pharmaceutics Laboratory at the Magee Womens Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh, is currently accepting applicants. Research in this laboratory lies in design of drug delivery and targeting systems for application in the areas of infectious disease and women’s health. A major focus in the lab is centered on the design of pharmaceutical products and drug delivery systems for the prevention of HIV and contraception. Another area is focused on understanding drug transport, metabolism, and drug-drug interactions when pharmaceutical products are administered intravaginally. The laboratory is developing pharmaceutical products and translating them from the bench to first in human clinical testing.

This position will work daylight hours. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

This position is grant funded.

The Research Associate – Basic Science conducts and manages independent research, assists with grant applications and manuscript preparation and trains research personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop research projects including protocol design, budget preparation and justification, data collection and analysis and data storage.

  • Plan and implement training programs for Research Assistants on research activities and practice including grant application, budget management, data analysis, record keeping and scientific integrity.

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications including budget preparation and justification.

  • Supervise research assistants and monitors budgets. Responsible for record keeping, inventory and equipment management.

· Master's degree in a basic science or clinical research area relevant to research activities to be performed with at least one-year experience

· OR bachelor’s degree in a basic science with at least three years' experience working within a biomedical research environment, which would include coordinating and executing a research protocol including manuscript preparation.

· Advanced degrees in relevant fields such as applied sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, and biology with prior experience are preferred

· Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in the design and implementation of research projects. Strong interpersonal skills necessary to work within a group, manage and train research personnel, and to effectively communicate and interface with supervisors
