Employment Specialist

The Employment Specialist provides guidance and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in community-based employment settings. The Employment Specialist provides support with locating a job to apply for, assistance with completing applications for jobs, employment trainings, interview and interpersonal skills, on the job training and follow up supports in order to obtain and maintain employment within the community. This position requires frequent communication with internal and external sources. This position requires strong organizational, decision making, and problem-solving skills and the person must be capable of working independently.

What you will do:

  • Use independent judgment when providing assistance and support to individuals in order to obtain and maintain employment in the community including job development, on the job training and follow up supports. This includes mobility training, community awareness training, interest surveys, assisting in the completion of job applications, support during interviewing, establishing natural supports at the workplace, etc.

  • Manage daily schedule to achieve and maintain program specific and organizational established standards or productivity and output

  • Complete all documentation on time as required according to applicable regulations, agency and program policy and procedures.

  • Clear and open and effective communication with businesses in the community, Team Lead, Supervisor, all individual’s team members, etc.

  • Express thoughts, expectations, ideas and intent effectively and concisely, orally and in writing.

  • Maintain confidentiality according to Organizational Policy and Procedures.

  • Transport individuals in personal vehicle as needed for job development, interviews, pre-employment physicals, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field and 1 year of experience working directly with individuals with IDD/Autism

  • or High School Diploma/Equivalent and 5 years of experience working directly with individuals with IDD/Autism.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle.

  • Act 33/34/73 Clearances

  • Pre-Employment Physical/TB and Drug Screen
