Oxford Life Insurance is seeking to fill a full-time Supervisor of Financial and Budgetary Reporting. This is a mid-level position with the great opportunity of joining a creative and dynamic team. The ideal candidate should have advanced knowledge in statutory accounting principles, GAAP concepts, effectively communicating with customers, and guiding a staff. The Supervisor of Financial and Budgetary Reporting will work directly under the supervision of the management team including the Controller and the Chief Financial Officer.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and develop managerial reports reflecting the balance sheet, income statements, and significant events and/or trends.

  • Research and understand significant accounting events by interviewing essential personnel and/or reviewing source documents.

  • Oversee the reconciliation of important asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis.

  • Participate in meetings with various levels of management to further the understanding of financial performance or communicate department needs.

  • Prepare and guide the preparation of audit schedules for internal/independent auditors. Answer inquiries regarding audit and accounting matters.

  • Design and implement new programs and procedures to improve accounting accuracy and effectiveness. Conduct and analyze special projects.

  • Provide technical leadership to less experienced accounting personnel in the department.

  • Evaluate the performance, effectiveness and growth of subordinates. Ensure the competency of each subordinate through increasing delegation of responsibility, authority and through formal and informal education. Interview, select, and evaluate the performance of department personnel. Initiate wage increases, promotions, disciplinary action or terminations, as required.

  • Read industry publications, new business literature, and take courses necessary to successful completion of job responsibilities. This includes attending seminars and/or meetings with other insurance or accounting firms when required.

  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct all activities and functions of the Financial Reporting and Business Planning unit.

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, both internal and external. Ensure the accurate and timely preparation, analysis, and summarization of financial records.

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of the annual business plan financial information,

  • Prepare or direct the preparation of the monthly, quarterly, and annual budget to actual reports (executive summaries).

  • Assist management in evaluating profitability and risk exposure of existing and potential insurance programs.

  • Hire, train, discipline, motivate, and provide guidance and leadership to the Financial Reporting and Business Planning accountants/analysts.

  • Keep abreast of new techniques in financial reporting, analysis or new technology.

  • Enforce company and department policies and standards.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller/Assistant Treasurer.

    Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word and Excel)

Since 1945, U-Haul has been serving do-it-yourself movers and their households. Like many other successful ventures, the concept for U-Haul was generated out of need. After World War II, there existed the widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment that would be available on a one-way, nationwide basis. U-Haul co-founders L.S. "Sam" Shoen and his wife, Anna Mary Carty Shoen, recognized that need and acted upon it.
