Actalent Estimator in Phoenix, Arizona

Description:

Looking to hire an Estimator to support growing business. They are looking for someone who desires advanced leadership opportunities down the road as this candidate will get a lot of exposure to working with clients and bidding on work.

Position Details

• Identify customer needs. Review & understand plans & specifications.

• Send accurately and timely estimate proposals of projects and be prepared with cost break downs to include subcontractors and suppliers.

• Able to present bid, explain and answer questions regarding project to the customers Executives and Project Managers.

• Ability to flag potential problem areas on projects.

• Perform load calculations, design duct systems, and take off HVAC equipment.

• Attend job meetings and pre-bid meetings.

• Use computer skills to facilitate improvement of estimating systems.

• Stay current with material and labor costs to address escalation of costs for budgeting of long-term projects.

NEW BUILD PLANSET

• Read over and understand the “scope of work” of the project.

• Display the ability to ask for help (in our office) when needed.

• Have the ability to work under pressure (time constraints).

• Read and understand the “General Notes & Key Notes” sections of Mechanical plans. (This can be a costly mistake if not done right)

• Identify all mechanical equipment listed on Schedule pages of Mechanical plans.

• Email Mechanical plans over to equipment vendors for pricing (or be able to communicate to vendors the equipment called out on the plans).

• Display proficiency in Microsoft programs, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.

• Display proficiency in Adobe PDF reader.

• Display proficiency in using Duct take-off software.

• Be able to articulate detailed “scope of work” of “Inclusions” and “Exclusions” when typing up proposals (without using AI (Artificial Intelligence) software).

• Be able to communicate effectively with General Contractors/Customers with questions regarding the project.

• Be able to conduct oneself professionally when faced with adversity.

• Be able to solicit feedback professionally regarding submitted bid proposals.

• Perform Follow-ups with customers.

• Continue to Foster professional relationships with General Contractors to continue receiving future bid requests.

TENTATIVE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS/ with and without stamped plans or Custom Projects w/out stamped plans

• Read over and understand the “scope of work” of the project.

• Schedule and perform necessary job walks of existing site with Customer.

• Take pictures of existing site

• Display the ability to ask for help (in our office) when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Job Requirements

Five or more years' experience in HVAC/mechanical/plumbing estimating experience in commercial work and thorough knowledge of estimating techniques plus industry standards practices and processes that impact the bid.

• Working knowledge of air distribution and mechanical systems. Able to read and interpret mechanical specifications and drawings.

• Must have basic PC experience and knowledge in Windows environment, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Minimal experience with Adobe Acrobat, Web-enabled applications, and database software.

• Intermediate level experience with Excel a MUST.

• Must possess excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to meet competing deadlines.

• Must possess excellent math aptitude, superior follow-up skills, ability to work under pressure and multi-task.

• Demonstrate good time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.

• Familiarity with Industrial, Commercial and Residential HVAC industry systems (controls is a plus).

Best candidate will be someone who is money motivated - someone who is just comfortable with a base salary won't be the best fit. Will look at someone whose experience has been more on the BD/sales side of HVAC and has some history of estimating.
