A Brief Overview

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Research Institute is recruiting a team to build a data and informatics program called "Arcus" that links clinical and biological data and provides world-class computational tools to solve the most challenging problems in child health. Recognizing the central role of data to the future of pediatric research, CHOP leadership and the Board of Trustees committed to a funding plan, and Arcus was launched in July 2017. The Arcus team integrates with major scientific initiatives in the Research Institute Strategic Plan: Lifespan, Rare Diseases, Novel Devices and Therapeutics, and Precision Health. We seek mission-oriented professionals with interest and expertise in the areas of biomedical science, library science, data education, data science, cloud computing, data privacy, and security.The amount and complexity of the data, especially those associated with genomic experiments, will demand careful attention to details of the underlying data model and may result in large schema changes or mapping.

Role includes serving as project owner, managing Arcus scientific projects from intake through delivery; executing internal and external customer service & information requests using Jira; facilitating ongoing process improvement, cross-team communications, and training on project management methodologies for eight Arcus functional teams.

Preferred experience: Healthcare, research, informatics, JIRA

This role will maintain a portfolio of projects that meet the emerging needs of the department. This individual will work with departmental leadership to develop project plans that align with the strategic goals of the organization, with a focus on process improvement and change management.

The Project Manager will also serve in a consulting role in cross-disciplinary projects that leverage the department's expertise.

What you will do Project Identification Identify and organize projects by defining project scope, goals and deliverables Perform needs analyses to ensure that institutional needs are met Identify key stakeholders and appropriate project team members Project Initiation and Planning Secure project approval, determines resource availability, timeline and financial commitment, and manages project progress Facilitate discussions to meet mutually agreed upon goals Coordinate complex customer input, ideas and feedback Complete detailed project plan documents, including project work breakdown structure, schedule, roles and responsibilities Manage and communicate project objectives and goals to the project team Present project plan documents to key stakeholders and audiences Project Execution Manage project execution from start to finish including tracking progress, identifying issues and mitigating risks Establish rapport with collaborating departments and team Meet regularly with project sponsors including to communicate progress toward project milestones and project status, provide insights into project health, proactively escalate issues and provide recommendations for bringing projects back into alignment with expected outcomes when needed Project Closure Complete post-project evaluations to determine project outcomes Ensure project outcome is in alignment with desired impact and results Complete lessons learned and present outcomes and findings to key stakeholders and audiences Assemble and archive project documents Education Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Required Experience Qualifications At least three (3) years project management, quality or process improvement experience Required At least five (5) years of project management, quality or process improvement experience Preferred At least five (5) years of business analysis experience Preferred At least one (1) year of experience managing cross-functional teams Preferred Previous experience in a healthcare or research related environment Preferred Skills and Abilities Advanced knowledge of Project Management Body of Knowledge guidelines (PMBOK) including productivity tools, project charters, work plans and budgets. Intermediate knowledge of Business Analysis Body of Knowledge guidelines (BABOK) Intermediate knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) Intermediate knowledge of change management principles including organizational dynamics, change theory, and improvement methods / tools Intermediate knowledge of risk management principles Fundamental knowledge of healthcare / research operations and systems Advanced proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation & diagramming software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) Excellent verbal and written communications skills Excellent time management skills Excellent organizational skills Strong analytical skills Solid negotiation skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to gather, analyze and make recommendations/decisions based on data Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels Ability to influence others to accomplish tasks outside of the direct span of control Licenses and Certifications Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) - Project Management Institute (PMI) - upon hire - Preferred or Project Management Certification (PMP) - Project Management Institute (PMI) - upon hire - Preferred or Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) - American Society for Quality (ASQ) - upon hire - Preferred or Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) - American Society for Quality (ASQ) - upon hire - Preferred
