Job Duties

Supervises and coordinates work activities of Telephone and Patient Information personnel on all shifts.

Provides and maintains a daily work schedule for Telephone Operators.

Supervises staff in area of responsibility; initiates disciplinary action, including terminations; Assists Director with annual performance appraisal of employees.

Maintains smooth departmental operation for telephone and Patient Information departments.

Ensures adequate staff coverage by coordinating the vacation and holiday schedules; approves overtime as necessary and arranges coverage for absent staff; maintains employee attendance records (including vacation time, and sick days). Fills in as needed to maintain coverage.

Issues in-house and long-range beepers to authorized personnel, maintaining accurate records of users and maintaining proper inventory.

Investigates and resolves all complaints and problems in a productive and timely manner.

Oversees the maintenance of cleanliness and neatness of telephone and Information areas.

Conducts periodic training session for all department employees.

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Understands and adheres to the Medical Centers Code of Conduct.

Familiar with the Medical Center=s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

OTHER JOB DUTIESAttends appropriate meetings and conferences in absence of department head whenever necessary.Performs all other duties as assigned.BASIC COMPETENCIESEducationHigh school graduation or equivalent required; college degree preferred.

Experience5 years of telephone or associated communications services required; 3 years as a supervisor or equivalent preferred.

SkillsGood oral and written communication skills.Good interpersonal skills.Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.JOB SETTING/PHYSICAL DEMANDSTelecommunications office; contact with staff, patients, general public by telephone and in person.Mostly sedentary.Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
