Overview

The Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of the following key accounting functions: managing the credit card chargeback process, Income Audit, Accounts Payable, & Accounts Receivable support, report preparation, managing accounting records, and other accounting functions as assigned. It also involves auditing banks regularly, preparing reliable daily financial information, communicating all omissions and deviations to appropriate management, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting in accordance with HEI’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Respond effectively to customer inquiries in a timely fashion. Communicate all issues and/or disputes to operating departments and supervisor.

  • Reconciliation of Third Party Prepaid reservations through the use of property management systems and website extranets.

  • Ensure proper internal control by monitoring the guest ledger, advance deposit ledger and any other related subsidiary ledgers.

  • Monitor and prepare financial reports in accordance with LSOP requirements meeting various due dates; i.e., month end aging reports, monthly credit meetings, biweekly group deposit meetings, etc.

  • Keep supervisor informed of any unusual events and/or deviations of policies or procedures.

  • Ensure overall guest satisfaction.

  • Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in finding and implementing solutions.

  • Respond to chargebacks in timely manner

  • Handle incoming guest calls, including disputes

  • Update various accounting systems with reports and other information.

  • Maintain Office Supply levels for accounting staff

  • Audit cashier banks as required by HEI’s standards. Maintain all documentation.

  • Prepare copy and distribute reports as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required and/or experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.

  • At least one year of progressive experience in a hotel or related field preferred.

  • College course work in related field helpful.

  • Prior cash handling required.

  • Computer knowledge/skills required, especially in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.

  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required.

  • Sedentary work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
